The student is preparing for an assessment covering linear programming. We discussed the theoretical concepts of linear programming and walked through some examples. The second chapter we reviewed focused on applications of linear programming to solve a variety of real world problems. We worked together entering a problem into Excel and used the Solver add-in to solve the problem. I recommended that he work through each of the sample application problems working them out in Excel for practice. We also reviewed his prior assessment; he earned a grade of 90%, which was up from previous work.

The lecture focused on two topics, measures of central tendency and dispersion. We also went over numerical representations of mean and standard deviation.

The student and I started reviewing Chapter 51, which focuses on employment law. This was a lengthy chapter, so we initially were going to take the approach of focusing on the main concepts in each section. We were able to still highlight a few more details and also work through the first three "areas" of employment law including the following: Safety and Health concerns including the coverage of OSHA (the "health and safety" act); laws related to wages, benefits, hours and pension concerns; and, coverage of laws and guidelines related to unions. We also started reviewing the next sections on equal pay and Title VII, and we plan to complete the entire chapter during the next session.
