The student and I prepared for his final exam in a lengthy session today. We reviewed every major concept from this semester: basic right-triangle trigonometry, trig identities, the laws of sines and cosines, logarithms, exponential growth and decay, arithmetic and geometric sequences and series, and solving three-variable linear systems. Today's work helped refresh his memory considerably.

Tutoring review by Eunki in Scappoose, OR
The student and I focused on preparing for his exam the next day. We mostly focused on what we studied for the last couple of weeks - matrices. We reviewed only the topics that he felt uncomfortable with or wanted to cover such as systems of linear equations applied to the real world and applying matrix operations like inverse and identity matrices in solving for a variable in a matrix equation. He seemed more comfortable afterwards, and as usual, I encouraged him to study by actually doing practice problems, even if they are problems he had done before because it can help him reinforce his thought process and approach to each particular type of problem.

The student was humbled by a poor test performance and we spent most of the time going over his answers. He was much more willing to let me talk this time! He will re-submit his work and we will continue with the newer material next week.

Tutoring review by Jennifer in Scappoose, OR
The student had received a 96% on her last exam. We reviewed the problems she had gotten incorrect and found that sketching graphs was an area of weakness. We discussed what the different parts of the equation told us (i.e.- the factorized form shows the x-intercepts where the y-value is zero), and she created the corresponding graph.

Tutoring review by Justin in Scappoose, OR
The student informed me that he felt like he did well on the SAT Math 1 test but also said that it was one of the tougher versions that he has taken. During this session we prepared him for his calc quiz on derivatives, anti-derivatives, finding tangent lines and using implicit differentiation. Overall, it felt like he understood the material but struggled a little with taking the 2nd derivative of a function using implicit diff. We went over a few of the examples and he said he'd continue to review these problems before the quiz.
