Math Tutoring review by Monika in Round Lake Beach, IL
For last week: Student 1 and I worked on how to memorize geometry theorems and how to do a proof if asked to do one on an exam. She seems to be grasping circle geometry very well. Student 2 and I worked on simple rectangle perimeter problems that she did very well on. Her addition of large numbers is coming along well. This week: Student 2 and I worked on large complicated perimeter problems where some of the sides were missing on irregular shapes. She seemed very confused at first, but we discussed how if we draw rectangles within the shape, we can use the very simple rectangle angle rules (in a rectangle, opposite sides are equal). This simplified how she looked at the perimeter solving problems. Something that she needs to work on is making sure all her sides are accounted for when summing them. The best way to do this is to go clockwise around the shape making a list of all the side lengths, then summing them at the end. Furthermore, I explained how if we have a lot of little numbers, we can add them together in pairs, then add those pairs up. We finished by doing some more complicated large perimeter problems that I made up on the back of her homework and on a scratch piece of paper.

Today we worked on lesson 72 and 73. This included solving part of whole equations and proportions. We did a couple examples of this and I think by the end the concept was making more sense. We also did problems with calculating area given a certain % increase of the original object. There were also problems regarding factoring and simplifying expressions and she did very well on these.

Math Tutoring review by Herbert in Round Lake Beach, IL
The student worked on her homework. She only had a few left, so after the student finished it, I got some worksheets from the online textbook over transformations and we worked those problems. The student had a review sheet for a quiz that we worked on. After we finished, we worked some extra problems from a math workbook over the concepts that were going to be on the quiz.

Math Tutoring review by Kevin in Round Lake Beach, IL
On Thursday I met with the student to discuss sinusoidal functions. He came to the session prepared to work on a homework assignment that required the identification of sinusoid function given a graph of function. We spoke about this topic at length, spending almost all of the session time working on this assignment. We spent a little of the time going over the incorrect answers to one of the student's recent quizzes. I felt that the student had a pretty good handle on the subject when we spoke and that he understood where his mistakes were on the quiz.
