The student needed to work on his part of the study guide for the final exam, so we brainstormed ways to practice the vocabulary. For one list of vocab, he created original questions and answers. For the other list, he thought about making a crossword, but I suggested a matching game, since the online crossword generators can get messy. He made a list of 20 words to be matched. Then we found an online exercise of fill-in-the-blanks using the past subjunctive. I thought the difficulty level was appropriate for his class (or maybe a little harder), so I had him go through and try to fill in the blanks himself. I then explained why the past subjunctive was necessary in each sentence. By working on his part of the study guide, he got a good refresher on some tricky subjects so it was really two birds with one stone. Then I had him fill out a review sheet I had created on my own involving demonstrative pronouns and relative pronouns. He did pretty well, considering my worksheet didn't line up perfectly with what he learned in class. We covered a lot of topics today so I hope they all stick!
