Gardena GRE Subject Test in Psychology Tutoring FAQ
Students typically learn psychology in discrete, manageable units: assignments, classes, and tests that build their knowledge by methodically introducing new concepts over time. However, if you are planning on pursuing graduate-level studies in psychology, you may be required to take the GRE Subject Test in Psychology, and this expansive exam does not divide the field's content in such a user-friendly manner. Instead, it throws everything at you at once, assessing the cumulative knowledge that you have gained throughout your entire undergraduate psychology education, as well as content that none of your classes may have mentioned, much less covered in detail. The massive breadth of content that can appear on the GRE Subject Test in Psychology can make the exam extremely intimidating to students as they begin to study, which can lead to procrastination and stress. When students do begin to review, they may be flummoxed as to how to best allocate their limited study time. Should they focus equal amounts of time on each concept, regardless of whether it is new or familiar? Should they pay special attention to certain concepts? How should they approach learning old and new material? All of these various challenges can combine to freeze a student in his or her tracks and slow progress to a halt.
Instead of falling prey to confusion and nerves when facing down the GRE Subject Test in Psychology, structure your studies efficiently with the help of one-on-one tutoring. Varsity Tutors can help get you connected with private psychology tutors in your area. Private tutoring can help you approach your test preparation in a well-considered, efficient manner, and is designed to address your specific concerns and needs. While each GRE Psychology tutor is knowledgeable about the field and has excelled on the exam, the educational directors at Varsity Tutors consider a number of factors when helping you select the instructor who best suits your needs: your particular strengths and weaknesses with the material, your particular concerns about your preparation, and even your personality and the ways in which you best learn. Your tutor can then analyze your current knowledge of psychology and design a unique tutoring plan to address just the concepts that you need to review and learn before test day. You do not have to worry about revisiting material that you already know well. Instead, your instructor can help you work through content that is challenging to you, but in a manner that never becomes overwhelming. Plus, all tutoring takes place in a one-on-one setting, either in person or face-to-face online, so you can have your questions answered as soon as they arise and receive immediate feedback on your work.
Your private GRE Psychology tutor can help you prepare for any elements of the test that you may be struggling with. They can help you brush up on the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders. If you're concerned about your reading comprehension and reasoning skills, your tutor can bring practice excerpts and questions pertaining to psychology to your sessions together. Maybe you're looking to hone your writing skills for the analytical writing portion of the exam. Your GRE Psychology tutor can help you develop better writing habits so that you're prepared to compose a concise, strong essay come exam day. Regardless of your learning obstacles, a private tutor can ensure that you are confident about taking the test.
You may be surprised at how efficiently you can study for your exam with the help of personal tutoring. Contact the educational directors at Varsity Tutors today to learn more, or to be connected with the tutor best suited to helping you succeed!

Recent Gardena GRE Subject Test in Psychology Tutoring Session Notes
This session consisted completely in new material. The student did not have time to work on the percentages problems, so I reassigned those. Following that, we covered with relative celerity divisibility and primes (c.13), exponents and roots (c.14), and single-variable word problems (c.15). She had very few issues, so much of this will just be a matter of increasing skills.
The student and I met for another session of GRE tutoring. In this session we reviewed basic arithmetic concepts. These concepts included how to add and multiply fractions as well as how to do prime factorization. Now that we have a learning plan, he is able to do better as opposed to just practicing random questions.
We spent the first hour on the quantitative section and then followed up with our first foray into the verbal section. Even after just one session, the math fundamentals seemed to being returning for the student. And with our first work on the verbal section, it is obvious that he is also very strong in this area.
Finished math review (geometry, permutations/combs, probability). She scored a 160+ on her GRE practice Quantitative Reasoning section. Hopefully with some more work she can show the same improvement on her verbal. Will need to look over her practice GRE reports next time for more specifics.
The student did an online diagnostic this week, so we went over that. The student had problems with percentages, found the Analyze and Argument task to be extremely tough, and had trouble with some of the reading problems. However, I think a lot of her discomfort stemmed from stress with technological difficulties -- the software was acting up for her, so we're going to do a paper test this weekend. She still struggles a bit with vocab, but she's much more prepared than she was last time I had her do part of a practice test.
The student and I began our test review with an overview of the math section. We spoke about general strategies, including process of elimination as it applies to math problems and estimation. We then turned to the data sufficiency strategy.
