Recent Summit CLEP Principles of Microeconomics Tutoring Session Notes
I reviewed the Geometry concepts that the student would need for the test and quizzed him on many of the basic mathematical formulas he'll need. We did some practice math problems and worked more on Logical Reasoning at the end.
After the first session was all math, we did both a reading and a writing section. The student has a really outstanding vocabulary and has the skills to score very well on the verbal section with some tweaking of his strategies. He also has a very good grasp on grammar, so I expect him to do well in that aspect, as well, with some updating of some foundational pieces and a little strategic thinking.
The student and I finished going over the math section we worked on during the last session then worked through one English passage and one reading passage for practice. She's improved quite a bit in both English and reading - she missed only one question on the English section and answered all of the questions correctly on reading. We then reviewed the systems of equations and ratios/proportions packets I had given her for practice. She seems to be more comfortable translating word problems into equations, which is great to see. We also reviewed triangle congruence theorems, which should prove helpful on the geometry questions. After math, we started working on the science section of test 4.
We first went over homework, which was having the student do a practice Level One test. He did well, scoring a 700. We went over these questions and the best way for him to attack them on the test. We spent the rest of the session reviewing solid geometry, and he seemed to understand most of it pretty well.
At today's session, the student and I went over the History assessment test that she had taken earlier this year. We talked about how to respond to an essay prompt, and constructed an outline for a thematic essay using the prompt from her test. In addition, she began working on an outline for the essay from the same test.
The student and I met to work on the ACT. She is waiting to receive her copy of the ACT test and answer sheet from the June exam. We worked on the intro sections in the red book together. We're planning to have two more sessions this week.
