Fremont 3rd Grade Writing Tutoring FAQ
As your child progresses through grade school, he or she will continually augment his or her communication skills. Your child will learn to formulate ideas of increasing complexity to match the increasing difficulty of the materials addressed in class. Although reading and grammar provide many tools for literacy and writing skills, they are not focused directly on the subtle and separate craft of composition. In addition to formally learning grammar and reading comprehension skills, it is necessary for you to help your child inculcate these ever more complex topics into his or her active use of the English language in compositional expression.
Although you personally can help provide such assistance in many ways, a highly talented and experienced tutor can assist you in providing the most effective program of writing studies for your child in the form of third grade writing tutoring. Contact Varsity Tutors today, and let us help connect you with the perfect tutor to match your child's current writing needs, no matter where in the United States you reside.
At this point in your child's elementary education, the topics being covered in his or her reading and English classes are becoming increasingly complex. Your child is likely learning how to use all of the major parts of speech in the English language, including basic forms of subordination and participles. Generally speaking, the advanced usage of these forms will not be formally taught in grammar for a number of years. However, they become ever more present in his or her reading assignments, prompting him or her to wish to use them in writing. Such use will require direction in order to ensure that your child does not develop any bad practices at this critical stage of writing. Through private tutoring, you can provide the ready guidance that your student needs, both for the explicit as well as the implicit writing topics being learned during this time of elementary school studies.
It can be difficult for your child to receive the type of attention they need in a classroom setting. While your child's teacher can certainly teach them how to write and correct their papers, they really don't have the time to work with them on an individual level. So while they may tell you and your child about areas they should work on, they may not necessarily provide individualized directions on how to address those areas. A private tutor can help in this regard because they can spend as much time as necessary with your child to help them understand whatever concepts they may be struggling with.
Although it might seem a bit strange to think of this as being a critical time for teaching your child how to write, the habits that we acquire early in learning can last a lifetime. The better that your child becomes at expressing himself or herself today, the more confident he or she can be when it is necessary to write much more complex essays and papers in the coming years. Find the perfect tutor to help guide him or her during these formative years. Contact Varsity Tutors and let us help you find a tutor who can offer personal guidance.
Varsity Tutors' live learning platform lets you and your child meet with a private tutor either in person or face-to-face online. This gives you a lot of flexibility and freedom in terms of deciding the time and location that works best for you and your child. The idea is to make sure that you and your child are as comfortable as possible. So whether this means meeting at your house or meeting in a public place such as a park or library, a skilled and experienced tutor can meet you wherever you and your child feel most comfortable.

We used the first half of the session to discuss the student's in-progress personal narrative. We are working on incorporating sensory detail and drawing the reader into his writing. The second half of the session used the Spectrum Writing workbook for 4th grade to practice organizing the writing process and using precise nouns.
The student seems to struggle with the organizational aspect of writing. In my experience, it is really common for young students to jump right in to a writing piece, without paying much attention to a logical sequence of events. I left the student with a practice page in the Spectrum book.
First, the student wrote a two page story in order to continue working on her writing skills. We paid close attention to making sure her story flowed and made sense. Then, she read a book on the Nutcracker, which she summarized to me every couple of pages. The goal was to work on reading comprehension.
I did diagnostic testing. I gave him topics to write about and guided him through the process. I also gave him exercises from a workbook and left him homework to complete until we meet again.
His mother mentioned his scores from his testing at school.
We will continue to develop and mold his writing skills.
The student worked on parts of speech including: nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, and verbs. He identified words in a passage as each type. He did well with this concept. He also worked on properties of addition and subtraction using grade three problem tasks.
Today I had the student write the alphabet for me, uppercase and lowercase. He struggled with the writing. We also did some grammar exercises in his Language Arts book. He is able to read and comprehend the assignment as well as answer questions. He had difficulty and resisted doing work that involved writing. I left him with lined paper to practice during the week.
