I have attended and worked at the tutoring center, EDU4U, for the last 7 years. My own experiences as a student receiving tutoring has taught me and helped me a lot in being a successful tutor. In my opinion, the most important part of tutoring is understanding each individual's needs and learning methods. Everyone is different and to be a successful tutor, you cannot apply the same teaching methods to every student. Understanding how quickly students learn, what types of strengths they have, and their motivations for receiving tutoring is key to helping a student achieve their academic goals. My tutors have been some of my greatest mentors, and I want to be able to pass that on to my students.

I am currently an undergraduate student at UC Santa Barbara working on my Bachelor's of Science degree in General Biological Sciences. After graduation I plan to expand my health care education and pursue a career as a health care professional, either as a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant. I am passionate about teaching because it has been my previous teachers who have inspired my inquisitiveness about the world around me and my excitement to learn. I now strive to pass on my knowledge to new students because I believe that education is important for a healthy, happy, and self-dependent life. As a result of my experience mentoring young children as a summer camp counselor and advising incoming freshmen at my university as an orientation advisor, I have developed a personal approach to helping others, specifically on a one-on-one basis. I teach students by working together, encouraging practice, requiring them to demonstrate what they've learned, and verbalizing positivity towards their success. I am a tutor for HSPT, ISEE, SSAT, SAT Writing, SAT Mathematics, and Algebra 1 and below. My favorite subject to tutor is math because it is a subject where you can, without ambiguity, prove that something is exact and correct. In my spare time, I enjoy playing soccer, zumba, baking, card games, and playing with pets.

I have an Associates of Science from College of the Redwoods and a Bachelors of Science in Wildlife Biology from Humboldt State University. On May 25, 2014, I graduated with a Masters in Environmental Policy and Management with an emphasis in Global Environmental Management from the American Public University. I have worked for the United States Forest Service for the last 5 years. During my employment with the USFS, I have surveyed small mammals, birds, carnivores, invertebrates, and vegetation species. I have also been a part of projects that studied California red-legged frogs, western pond turtles and stream dwelling salamander species. I am passionate about biology and environmental sciences. My tutoring experience includes middle school, high school and college students. In my experience, discussing life science has always been the most interesting for me and my students. My tutoring style alters to cater to my student's needs. I like to get to know my students and see what style works the best for that individual. My goal is to help my students succeed. I believe that it is my responsible to show my students how to solve problems on their own; my mission is to provide the tools needed to find an appropriate solution. In my spare time I like to be outdoors as much as possible. I enjoy animals, playing volleyball and watching baseball.

I just graduated from the University of California, Irvine with high honors in biological sciences. I am currently seeking admission into medical school. Meanwhile, I am doing what I enjoy doing the most, tutoring students and helping them through their academic struggles. I enjoy interacting with students and seeing them improve academically as it gives me a lot of self-satisfaction. I enjoy teaching chemistry, physics and mathematics the most.I have many teaching strategies that I tend to implement in my tutoring sessions, and they have proved effective during my teaching career. I choose to interact with the family of the student and continually update them on the status of their student, as I believe that the family plays a crucial role as well as the tutor himself. Also, I approach my students in a very friendly way to eliminate any discomfort or stress the student might have. Finally, I am looking forward to helping more students succeed in their academic endeavors.

I HATED math in middle and high school! But when I got to college, I got to use math for all kinds of awesome projects. Designing boats! Controlling wind turbines! Shooting rockets underwater!I like to keep math rooted in the real world. I can teach you the basics of geometry, algebra, calculus and statistics, but more interestingly I can show you how to use what you learn to master the world around you. I'm not a professional teacher, I'm just a regular guy who learned all the tricks the hard, long way, and I want to share them with you!Conquering math feels awesome! It's not magic, it's hard work, but I'll help make it fun.

I grew up in California and graduated from The University of Oklahoma as a double major. I hold a B.A. in French Language & Literature and a B.A. in Public Relations & Journalism. I have taught French at the college level as well as tutored in my universitys language lab. I had the privilege of mentoring elementary school students in a French immersion program. Ive traveled extensively in metropolitan France and the province of Qubec. Currently, I work as a Public Relations professional for an education focused non-profit.No matter how long I study, the phases of learning a foreign language remain fresh in my mind. The anxiety of new grammar and the joy of mastering it are something of a universal with students. As a Journalism student and PR professional, the precision with which I was taught to write has imbued me with a keen sense of what constitutes not just good but great writing. Editing, proofreading, and revision are second nature to me as are the intricacies of English syntax and grammar.Helping others achieve confidence in their work, no matter the topic, is the goal of my tutoring. Everyone learns differently and distinctly. If there were a one-size-fits-all to learning, everyone would use it! So, it is essential I understand my students: what do they enjoy about learning; what challenges them; how do they learn best; what are their strengths; what are their learning goals; how do their goals align with those of their classes? Suffice to say, empathy is the foundation of my teaching style.
