The student and I went over a worksheet on area and circumference of a circle as well as basic probability. She seemed to understand everything fine. I gave her a quick lesson on scientific notation because it is the next topic that she is learning in class. We made plans to meet this Thursday.

The student worked on math word problems today. She shows confidence and is using illustrations to help her solve the problems. She also did fast math facts with addition and improved her time as well as accuracy. We worked on contractions and she is able to identify the contractions that go with the two word sample (they will=they'll). She read a selection aloud and answered some comprehension questions as well.

During this session, we reviewed two concepts: word choice and "passive vs active" sentences. In order to review these concepts, we did a few exercises. Additionally, the student focused on word choice as he edited on of his previous work samples.

Tutoring review by Rochelle in Little Haiti, FL
The student has a math test tomorrow. She homework pertaining to adding decimals and we reviewed a previous test, noting recurring errors with place value. She demonstrates understanding, and recognizes that she will perform better if she slows down and computes more carefully. She seems confident that she will do better this time around, and is looking forward to meeting again later this week to go over new material from class. She was more easily directed today when given the opportunity to make up numbers for place value practice. I also gave her numbers in extended word form verbally, which she then notated on paper. Mastery of multiplication facts seems to be improving. Towards the end of today's session (last 15 minutes), she also completed spelling and geography homework. Her mother was both surprised and excited to hear that she is looking forward to a second session later this week.

Tutoring review by Amanda in Little Haiti, FL
The student and I spent most of the lesson practicing Chapter 3 math skills such as rounding, estimating, and adding and subtracting large numbers. He seems able to do all of these skills separately, but he can get mixed up on more complex problems that use the same skills. We spent a lot of time working backwards and talking through problems. By the end of our lesson, he was working through problems faster and with more accuracy.

Tutoring review by Steven in Little Haiti, FL
Yesterday, the student and I went over both Chemistry and Pre-Calc to review for his exams today. With Chemistry, we focused mostly on areas we had worked on before where he was still a little unsure. This was mostly a conceptual review of intermolecular forces (hydrogen bonds and van der Waals interactions), orbital hybridization, and sigma and pi bonding. I am definitely seeing improvement in terms of him understanding these concepts better each time. In Pre-Calc, we went over a few problems from a homework assignment dealing with parametric equations of motion. He definitely understand how to do the problems.
