Tutoring review by Daniel in Lilburn, GA
Yesterday's session went pretty well. We covered how to get rid of fractions and decimals in an equation so that we only have to deal with integers. I explained why the method works, and we did examples until the student could easily do the problems on her own. She seems to be more comfortable with algebra equations in general, and made fewer mistakes than last week. She had a few questions about order of operations, and we covered it so that she understood why those rules make sense. It's always easier in the long run to understand where the rules for algebra come from instead of memorizing them. She definitely was able to understand the method of solving equations more deeply during yesterday's session.

Today's session started with the student's reading comprehension. He had to read a passage from his reading book and answer the questions 1 through 8. Before reading, I reviewed the reading strategies and skills. As he and I shared the reading we took turns reading aloud. I guided him through the skill of highlighting the important details while reading. Next I had him verbally summarize the passage. Then we worked together reading the questions and guiding him to through the answers.
