Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Melissa in Coral Gables, FL
The student's teachers have started to help him and have provided him with an agenda to stay organized. This will help keep the student, his parents, and his teachers all on the same page. This week in their parent/teacher meeting, his parents will emphasize all of our organizational plans so that we can all continue to be on the same page. The student and I went through every single one of his folders and sorted through which things were notes, which were graded assignments, and which were homework assignments. This organization system will help him know which things to study for upcoming quizzes and tests.

We studied for Biology by creating a study guide (worksheet describing major concepts), reviewed chapter 1 concepts and answered discussion questions together. Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Jana in Coral Gables, FL
The student and I went over her grades of tests she recently took. She received some grades on exams and quizzes that lowered her History grade average. We discussed how she can adjust her study habits for that course. She said she had began taking reading notes. Therefore, I suggested to begin earlier on taking reading notes prior to knowledge of the test. I helped her develop this weeks schedule in which we focused heavily on including time for reading the History chapter and taking notes (not just highlighting). Then I also expressed to the student it was important for her to go back and study those notes so the information remains fresh in her mind, and she will know what topics she is not grasping as easily. I also suggested more study time for upcoming Language Arts exam because the upcoming exam covers a topic of which she did not do as well on the quiz as other grades in that course.

I helped the student with his math homework. He loses attention periodically, and needs motivation to finish the task. I had him re-write two paragraphs that he wrote for homework, and to correct the wrong spelling and grammar.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Mary Elizabeth in Coral Gables, FL
The first student had a math worksheet on place value, and it took him some time to get focused to finish it. Yesterday I also asked him to start writing neatly on his homework, which took a little effort to do. The second student had a great session, and we worked through her math up to halfway through the Tuesday column.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Christine in Coral Gables, FL
The student seemed to be in good spirits. She already has sent emails to the appropriate people, so it's just a question of waiting for replies. We reviewed some of her class notes, and we spent some time discussing the topics from those classes. The big assignment she's working on is reading a book for her social work class that will be presented as a group role-play on Wednesday. The book starts off quite dry, so we looked up some summaries, reviews, and articles about the book - it looks like it gets much more engaging, and she seems excited to read it. We'll be meeting MWF next week, and I'm planning on touching base with her over the weekend to see how it's going and if she has the updated syllabus so she can update her planner.
