Recently I've graduated from the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan with a Master's in Liberal Arts. I wrote my thesis on the rise of vigilante heroes in Marvel Comics during the early 1980s and how these reflected the same time period in New York City. I have lived in New York for the past two and a half years in Manhattan, Brooklyn and now Ridgewood, Queens. In 2012 I graduated Trinity College in Hartford, CT with a degree in Sociology. During my undergraduate years at Trinity, I had the opportunity to travel and study in Cape Town, South Africa. During that time I volunteered in both prisons and townships working with students on reading and language skills as well as arts and crafts. I also had the chance to meet with several street artists who gave me a tour and discussed the street art history in Cape Town. These experiences have helped me in promoting learning as a way to strengthen one's life and gain opportunities that may have seemed impossible before. I love reading, art especially illustration, mural and street art as well as comics and graphic novels. I love different types of music from Hip Hop to Rock, Jazz, and Reggae and try to see different bands in my spare time.
I'm a recent graduate with over two years of experience as a writing tutor. As Head Tutor of my college's Writing Center, I worked with a diverse set of students with different backgrounds, interests, skills, and personalities. In this role, I developed a student-centered approach, helping young people evolve into better writers and critical thinkers. I believe that effective tutoring is a conversation, where building rapport is essential to creating a supportive learning environment. In every tutoring session, I help the student develop their own ideas, process, and style that will extend beyond just our sessions. I look forward to bringing my expertise in English, creative and academic writing, and critical thinking to help students discover their potential. I'm so excited to continue tutoring!
I'm have graduated Cum Laude with a BA in Political Science and International Studies. I'm currently pursuing my Masters degree. I have tutored students in multiple AP courses and enjoy watching students learn. While I have tutored in STEM and AP Psychology, I am most passionate about the humanities (hence the double major!). Education is a journey and I'm so excited to embark on this new chapter with you all! In my spare time, I enjoy creative writing and watching any murder mystery.
As a dedicated and compassionate tutor holding a Bachelor's degree in Child Psychology from Trinity Washington University, I bring a deep understanding of child development to my practice. With [number of years] years of experience, my student-centered approach emphasizes empathy, patience, and tailored learning. My tutoring philosophy is built on three core pillars:Collaborative Learning: I create a welcoming, supportive space where students feel empowered to ask questions and actively engage with the material.Mastering Mathematics: While proficient in various subjects, I find immense joy in tutoring math. I help students overcome challenges by fostering a genuine appreciation for logic and problem-solving.Building Lifelong Skills: My ultimate goal goes beyond numbers; I am dedicated to instilling critical thinking skills and a lifelong love of learning.Seeing the 'aha' moments when a student finally grasps a complex concept is what makes teaching truly rewarding.
Since graduating from Trinity College in 2005, I have lived and worked abroad (in India, New Zealand, and Europe) and spent the past six years teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th grades at both traditional and progressive middle and elementary schools here in Massachusetts. I earned my M.A. in English at Middlebury College, and I am about to embark on a second graduate degree in Theological Studies at Harvard. As both a teacher and a student, I thoroughly understand the value of loving learning for its own sake. All children have the desire to succeed, (whether or not they have realized it) and oftentimes the only thing standing in their way is their confidence. It is so easy to give up when faced with a challenge, to fade quietly into the background when we aren't confident, and to put up a wall of disinterest or dislike when we feel frustrated. Unfortunately, the traditional "school model" can be all too conducive to this, making it difficult for many children to love school and learning. My experience working at a small, progressive, student-centered independent school has taught me something very simple but profound: Education is not merely the acquisition of information and facts. Facts are available in seconds at the click of a button. Rather, education is about learning how to really think. Being "smart" no longer means being able to rattle off the capitals of all 50 states by memory- anyone can find that information on the internet. It is about knowing how to read critically, organize and synthesize ideas, reflect, and write analytically.Writing can be a daunting task for children, but there are so many tools that can be employed to make it not only manageable, but even enjoyable. Whether you're a visual thinker and you benefit from graphic organizers to outline your ideas, or a mathematical thinker and you need a formulaic approach to constructing a perfect paragraph or essay, there are a multitude of strategies that good writers have figured out and everyone can use to their advantage.Does your child say he or she just doesn't like to read? Perhaps they haven't found the right books, the genre that excites them or the author that "speaks" to them. Perhaps they're reading books that are too hard and getting lost in the language, or too easy and losing interest. Or, they haven't yet figured out how to get enveloped in a story, become attached to a character, and visualize a setting. There are many reasons why reading can be a struggle, but like writing, one size doesn't fit all and it's just a matter of figuring out which strategies work. The best way to really understand what your child needs is through undivided, individualized attention, and a strong, positive relationship in which they feel safe to take academic risks and ask questions. In most classrooms, the attention of the teacher is limited and goes to students who know all of the answers (because their hands are confidently raised and they are engaged in discussions) and the children who seek negative attention because they are calling out or disrupting their classmates. The one-to-one nature of tutoring affords an incredible opportunity to give your child the attention, support, and consistency they need to succeed. More importantly, it creates an environment in which learning is fun, rewarding, exciting, and satisfying, ultimately fostering the intrinsic motivation that is the key to success.
I am a marketing technology entrepreneur passionate about learning; education has always guided my personal and professional life. I have spent most of my career in the trenches at NYC startups building experience across all phases of business development - from market research and business plan writing to contract negotiation and fundraising. At the same time, however, I have never neglected my commitment to education. Aside from earning undergraduate degrees from Trinity College and Berklee College of Music and an MBA from Columbia Business School, I have continued to educate myself and others by enrolling and also lecturing at other notable universities such as NYU, MIT, and Harvard.
I have experience working with students of all ages, and what that has taught me is the importance of patience. Not every topic comes as easily to some students as others, and patience is essential. Additionally, I believe in carefully evaluating a student's history, progress and study habits to create an individualized approach for each student to best fit their needs. My specialty is in English test prep, and creative & essay writing.
Teaching is one of my favorite things to do; I love working with students to introduce them to new knowledge. I have a BA from Hampshire College where I double majored in 19th & 20th Century English and Irish Literature/Theatre, with a minor in German History. I have a certificate from the Trinity Rep Conservatory, where I studied acting, directing and playwriting. I tutor students in American History & Literature, Essay Writing, English Literature, European History & Literature. I am also a published playwright; my plays have been performed in the US, Canada and Germany.
Having been raised in Europe, some of my earliest childhood memories are of yearly family vacations in France. Later, throughout my school years, I participated in an exchange program, where I lived with a French family and went to school in Rennes, Bretagne. The French language has always held a special delight for me. I completed my university studies in French literature and philosophy. While attending Trinity College I gave private tuition to students.I have worked in Paris and Canada in bilingual capacites for example, with an international school where I managed private and group classes for individuals of all backgrounds and ages. I teach in a way that is fun and encouraging, while giving students a greater appreciation of the richness of Francophone culture. This is best accomplished through French conversation while still focussing on reading, writing and comprehension. Very quickly, students will be able to converse with confidence and ease.À bientôt!
I am a compassionate educator who is dedicated to advocating for those affected by disabilities. I am adept at cultivating trusting relationships with our most vulnerable populations and hold myself to the highest standard of professionalism, organization, and accountability. I thrive on close knit teams where all voices are heard and valued equally. I have developed expertise in all areas of the IEP process as well as writing and delivering curriculum that positively impact academic, social, and emotional skills.
I am an undergraduate student and teaching assistant at Trinity College who has a knack and love for all things tutoring, with a focus in literary analysis. With years of experience, I tutored at The Writing Center, for The National Honors Society, Key Club and Tri-M Honors Society, with students' grades improving by letter grades. In addition, I work for Grade Potential as an academic tutor and earned a spot on the Trinity College Faculty Honors list. As a result of my mentoring experience, I've obtained the philosophy that the student and the tutor must begin and end each session on level ground, constantly learning from each other throughout the experience; neither one is inherently in the driver's seat. Through this approach, I aim to foster meaningful academic growth grounded in curiosity, collaboration, as well as shared understanding. I look forward to working with you and do not hesitate to contact me with any questions!

While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I specialize in Reading, Writing, History, and conversational French. I try to impart my passion for education to students by vowing never to teach down to them, making learning fun, and stressing the importance of understanding over memorization. As your tutor, I will get you the results you want without imposing all that unnecessary stress. In my spare time, I like to read, cook, and spend time with my friends and my dog.
