How can Reading tutoring help you succeed?

One of the most important skills your student will learn in school is reading. The skill is a part of the Common Core Standards, and each grade has different expectations for a student's progress in the skill. Some of the main items that a student must learn in various grade levels are the following: making inferences from text; reading key ideas; understanding why individuals, events, and ideas develop; and what certain words and phrases mean. The level of complexity at which your child is expected to read increases with each grade level. For an early reader, a tutor might be helpful in working on word recognition or vocabulary, while identifying cause and effect or speeding up the decoding process will be necessary later. Your student must excel in the basics before going forward, and they won't be able to properly progress until they do. Varsity Tutors can help you find your child a reading tutor in Tucson, Arizona, who can work with them through their reading course, focusing on any subjects that cause the student immense struggle.

Many children have weaknesses when they are learning to read. Some learn at a slower pace, but a targeted study plan created by their tutor can focus on their exact needs. Their tutor can apply various learning methods based on your student's own style. Continuous assessments track the progress your student makes, and include discussions, assignments, quizzes, and homework. Their tutor can help your student work towards the reading expectations of their grade level. Despite any troubles, your child can work at a steady pace with the help of a professional Tucson reading tutor.

Reading Tutoring review by Catie in Tucson, AZ
Today we started with reviewing our letters. He knew them all and I was very happy about this. We also worked on some sight words which he did well with. Then, we worked on a level C book and he did well with that as well. Lastly we worked on writing our letters. Then, I had him write his lowercase letters for me so that I would know which of these to practice in future sessions.

Today, I challenged the student with a few workbook pages that were more difficult and he did very well sounding out new words. He took his time sounding out the words when I asked him to. We worked on the different vowel sounds, and although this was initially challenging for him, he remained patient and positive and did very well.

Reading Tutoring review by Marty in Tucson, AZ
The student read the 5th grade Reading skills story. We worked on the answers to the questions to clarify and assist her understanding on one of the questions and its answer. We looked up the word "enunciate" in the dictionary. Using the workbook, she created an index card on what pronunciation keys are used for, and how to determine what syllables to accent.

Reading Tutoring review by Tiffany in Tucson, AZ
During this session the student and I worked on test prep in the area of Reading. We worked together on identifying the main idea and recalling details of a fiction and informational passage. I also asked the student to provide textual evidence to support the questions that he answered. Afterwards, the student practiced answering short response questions that required him to infer and relate back to the text.

Reading Tutoring review by Debra in Tucson, AZ
Today, the student chose to read a required book for school, entitled, "The Summer of Riley", written by Eve Bunting, and he completed reading Chapter 3. (By asking open-ended questions, I assessed his reading comprehension of the first two chapters, which he had already read by himself.) Again, we discussed characters, setting, plot and sequence of events. In addition, we worked on some words that were a little bit difficult for him by breaking them down by phonemes. We talked about sounds and letters, and blending sounds to create words. The student is progressing well.
