We went over ACT Math, Science, English, and Reading today. She seems to have a lot of the knowledge required to do it down; she just really needs to work on her timing and needs to take more practice tests.

Today, the student and I covered mutations, and the different types of genetic mutations that can occur.  She is doing much better with her understanding of Biology.  Her study skills are slowly getting better, and her memory is getting better as well.  We will continue to work on the material, covering her quiz coming up this week.  She is a pleasure to work with.

This was the student's last session this year. She had another packet of material so we mostly stuck to the packet. She already had a decent grasp of the trigonometry that made up the bulk of the new material, but we drilled a bit more with extra problems I created. We got her more comfy and confident with SOHCAHTOA.

Tutoring review by Rachel in Marana, AZ
The student and I finished preparing for his test on hypothesis testing for sample means when the standard deviation of the population is both known (z-test) and unknown (t-test). We went over his homework that covered these tests and discussed when we would use each test. We also went over confidence intervals for estimating the population mean based on a sample mean. We talked about finding the margin of error from these intervals, and also determining the sample size needed from a certain margin of error. We also briefly went over type I and type II errors.

Tutoring review by Rebekah in Marana, AZ
The student and I reviewed his diagnostic test performance on SAT test 1. His greatest areas of weakness are the essay and the math sections. He chose to focus first on the essay. I taught him basic strategies for quick, efficient SAT essay brainstorming. I also taught him how to use source summaries to prepare for brainstorming specific details. I illustrated the point-example-commentary format to use in essays. We discussed a sample application of these ideas together. His assignment is to complete 2-3 practice essays before we meet again next Tuesday.
