I specifically covered the extensive mathematics and verbal I had left the student for homework. I noted significant improvement in math but only slight improvement in verbal. With the remaining sessions I will primarily or even solely target verbal. I did leave her with extra verbal practice and do not have any concerns from this session.

The student completed a practice quantitative section before our meeting. She's shown great improvement in application of the strategies we've discussed. She correctly answers most of the questions she attempts, so we focused on quicker estimation strategies for the longer questions that she typically saves for last. This should allow her to be more efficient near the end of the section. We spent time going over percent word problems, using different ways of estimating and eliminating answers. She did very well during our review of root words. We also went over the use of raise vs. rise while reviewing sit/set and lie/lay. We briefly touched on the use of colons and semicolons. She should review reading section strategies and take a practice reading section before we next meet.

The student took a diagnostic test for the quantitative reasoning portion. We then moved to practicing the new reading comprehension question strategies. He was finding the main idea in four paragraph long passages while I timed him. He did so in under thirty seconds by reading the question, reading the answers, and then searching the passage for what would be the correct answer. His time for reading comprehension has seriously improved thanks to us deciding to search the passage for the answer.

The student and I started our session by discussing how he recently did a shadowing day. During these shadowing days he learned some information about the test, which we discussed: how the test will be multiple choice, and how the test score is used with his grades in 8th grade to determine his ultimate score. Today, we went over spelling, and connecting words, as well as composition questions focusing on the structure of paragraphs. We then went over commonly used tone words, and what these words mean. Next we covered author's purpose, and how to determine the author's purpose. We completed a couple reading comprehension problems and finished up by looking at root/prefix words.
