How can a MCAT tutor help you?

For students who are interested in becoming a doctor, one of the necessary pieces of the application process for medical school is taking the MCAT. The MCAT, or Medical College Admission Test, gauges students' abilities to successfully complete medical school through four different test sections, which are taken together and last a total of about 7.5 hours. This makes the MCAT one of the longest standardized tests in existence. With a test that challenging, it makes sense to get all of the help you may to prepare for it. One great way to do that is with the help of a private tutor. If you'd like some help, the educational directors at Varsity Tutors may connect you with brilliant MCAT tutors in and around Tucson.

When you work with a tutor, you'll be working with an expert on the MCAT who may try to help you get the most out of your studying process. They'll be right there for you to answer any questions you have as they come up, and may develop targeted lesson plans designed to try to help you overcome your biggest struggles. Because of this, you'll find that working with a private MCAT tutor may make your study sessions much more efficient as compared to studying for the test by yourself. This means you may learn more in a smaller window of time, which may ultimately help you do your best on exam day. In short, our educational directors in Tucson, AZ, may find a tutor for you who may work with your learning style and abilities to potentially help you improve on the MCAT.

Session Summaries by MCAT Tutors

MCAT Tutoring review by Hafid in Tucson, AZ
Prior to this session, the student identified electrochemistry and electric circuits as topics she wanted to review. I provided some practice MCAT review questions on electrochemistry that we went over and discussed. Additionally, we reviewed circuits (resistances in series v in parallel, capacitors, and current) and one practice passage covering these topics from another MCAT practice series. We also covered gas (ideal v real gases) and kinetic energy loss due to friction.

MCAT Tutoring review by Kara in Tucson, AZ
Today's session was completely dedicated to Newtonian physics and linear motion, with a focus on the "Big 5" equations. Our next session will continue the physics track, focusing on work, power, and energy concepts. We may also look at oxidation-reduction chemistry reactions.

MCAT Tutoring review by Khrishen in Tucson, AZ
During the last session, we covered several chapters in her admissions test coursework. She had practiced several questions in the following chapters including AC and DC current/Magnetism in physics, Phase Changes/Gas Phase in Chemistry and Alcohol/Ethers in Organic Chemistry. She attempted several questions and we reviewed the ones where she did not completely understand the concept. She will be continuing to practice her strategies for the verbal section and she will be reinforcing them by working on additional questions.

MCAT Tutoring review by Travis in Tucson, AZ
The student started the session with a question about plasmids and vector cloning. After explaining those processes we worked through several verbal and then biological practice passages. These were passages which she completed on her own since our last session so we spent our time examining the questions she missed. I drew her attention to a number of strategies which could be applied to these questions and advised her to focus on the application of these strategies while she practices over the next week.

MCAT Tutoring review by Mark in Tucson, AZ
Spent the first 45 minutes of the session going over verbal reasoning, looking at questions she got wrong from practice test and then went over a couple sample passages. She felt like she was already answering more questions correctly compared to the start of our sessions. The remainder of the session was spent going over problems on electricity and currents. She understood electricity very well, but needed some more work on knowing how to approach circuit problems containing capacitors and resistors

MCAT Tutoring review by Tony in Tucson, AZ
For the first half of this session, the student and I worked through some remaining mechanics questions (momentum with angles, elastic vs. inelastic collisions, energy transfer, and power). She is going to work on some of her end-of-chapter review questions to help reinforce the material and will bring any remaining concerns to me on Saturday. For the second half, the student and I switched to chemistry. She felt comfortable with general chemistry periodic table trends, so I told her to work on the next two lectures in her review book and prepare questions for next time. We also reviewed nomenclature for organic molecules and did several practice molecules for her to learn the rules. For next time, we will review those concepts before continuing into the books.
