I am a graduate from Arizona State University, The Honors College, with a degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Global Health. I was awarded the Moeur award as I was able to complete university with a 4.0 GPA.Since AP Chemistry and AP Biology in high school, I have developed a passion for these subjects. Moreover, in college, my desire to share my knowledge and help others in these tough subjects greatly strengthened. Therefore, I chose to tutor middle-school and high-school students in a variety of subjects. Out of all the subjects that I offer, I love to teach biology, chemistry, and algebra because of my expertise and excellent ability to accurately convey the concepts. I also offer tutoring for SAT Math sections since this closely corresponds to my interests.Currently, I am an online peer mentor for first-year chemistry/biochemistry-degree students at ASU. This class has taught me many of the technical aspects of learning. From previous experiences, I learned that every student has their own learning style that they flourish in. While one might learn effectively with pictures, another student might grasp the concept with hands-on experience. My approach to tutoring is quite simple; after analyzing the student's strengths and weaknesses to create a mental record, I adapt my teaching style accordingly. In my free time, I love to work out at the gym, volunteer at Hospice, and watch movies. These are the activities that continue to motivate and push me.Lastly, I know that some students will either prefer a teacher-student interaction and some a student-student interaction. As long as the student is achieving his goals and gradually performing better, I can teach any way that student likes.

AP English Language and Composition Tutor • +9 Subjects

I earned my M.A. in English/Creative Writing and my B.A. in Print Journalism from the University of North Dakota. I have years of teaching and tutoring experience, both inside and outside of the classroom, at a number of colleges and universities, including the U. of North Dakota, Embry-Riddle, National American University and Estrella Mountain Community College. I have taught such courses as Creative Writing, Fiction, Technical, and Business Writing and Composition 1 and 2. I am the author of six books, and have published scores of essays, articles, poems, short stories, and photographs in publications across the country. My media experience extends to newspaper, magazine and television work, as well as in public relations for the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, the North Dakota Army National Guard, and with the U.S. Forest Service. I am very well read, articulate, and have a comprehensive grasp of American Literature. I truly love to work one-on-one with students and adults who are motivated by writing and the world of literature. I try to identify the skills sets that my students possess and extend my tutoring with them beyond that point. I enjoy tutoring such subjects as reading, writing, history, social studies and geography. I am, first and foremost, a family man, who is happiest when hiking, exploring and sight-seeing with his wife and children.

Whether you come to me for a single session or we meet every week for a semester, I believe the first step to success with tutoring is to work together to set clear expectations. This lets us work toward the same goal, and makes it simple to set milestones to get there. Any problem area in any subject can be broken into smaller and smaller pieces, until suddenly you realize there was never a problem to begin with.

=I'm here in Tucson pursuing my interest in architecture through the College of Architecture at the University of Arizona. I emphasize critical thought and logic because these skills can be applied not only to test taking and school, but also to personal matters and all other endeavors. For true success, one has to train abilities that span the traditional categories of math, science, etc. I've tutored fellow students throughout high school. Working with a variety of students within a diversity of academia (science, english, math, psychology, test prep), I've improved my ability to teach. Although I have never been one for specifics, for example remembering the dates of wars, my strength lies in analytical skills and critical thinking. Because of this, I'm able to teach better because the information I'm imparting is not data, it is a new way of thinking and considering problems. This skill of mine has allowed me to do very well on standardized tests, and I believe it is an ability I can share.

I am a graduate of Eckerd College and received my Bachelor of Science in Physics and a minor in Mathematics this past May. In the Fall, I will be attending Washington University in St. Louis pursuing another Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. I am enrolled in a dual degree program with Eckerd College and WashU. I am thrilled to be able to apply my current physics and math knowledge to real world problems. I believe that relating problems to the world around us is a great way to be engaged in the material. With my liberal arts background, I have been exposed to various subjects which allows me to tutor a variety of topics. While academics is my main priority, I enjoy baking, 3D printing, and ballroom dancing.

In 2019 I graduated with my Bachelors degree with Elementary Education (k-8). My first job out of college was teaching 7th, 8th and 11th grade math. The challenge was exciting, as math (especially Algebra) has always been my favorite subject and it was an amazing learning opportunity. I deeply care about guiding future generations to success and passion in both their academic and personal lives.

Being raised on a farm in Missouri, I've always had a strong interest in math and science. I especially liked the applied side of things. The "bean in a cup" experiment in elementary school grew into a hobby greenhouse as a teenager providing my family with vegetables for the table. It went on to grow into a full time family business which helped put me through college. The practical experience I got with all of this was invaluable. With more of a hands on approach, applied science and math allows you to take what you think you learned in class and see it in action in real life experiences. The experiences allow better integration of abstract concepts into reality, concreting what you know and leaving you with a desire to find out more.I attended college at Northwest Missouri State University and received a B.S. in ACS-accredited Chemistry in 2008. I have therefore had a lot of chemistry, including organic and p-chem as well as algebra, trig, geometry and multi-variate calculus. While I was a tutor for the Chemistry/Physics department (and asked to tutor College Lit and Bio labs) I actually had several classes in biology and agribusiness that led me to my graduate work at Arizona State. I am currently finishing up my PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology with emphasis on microalgal cultivation. I have a wide array of interests and enjoy spending time outdoor hiking and mountain biking.Overall, I'd say I'm a natural born problem solver. I love solving problems, especially abstract ones requiring creativity and imagination. I think it is the challenge of pulling from all of your life experiences and knowledge to come up with a solution that works. I think the key for success is having enough patience to keep ones imagination at work long enough to come up with a solution. I believe every problem has a solution, sometimes many.'It is often said that men are ruled by their imaginations; but it would be truer to say they are governed by the weakness of their imaginations.'Walter Bagehot
