How can a Elementary Math tutor help you?

A thorough understanding of the basics of mathematics is crucial as a child progresses through their educational career. More advanced areas like algebra, geometry, and even calculus build on simple operations and problem-solving skills. However, many young students struggle with math or find it boring, which isn't helped by classes that may move too quickly or leave them with unanswered questions. Varsity Tutors may find you an expert elementary math tutor in Tucson who may develop a study plan that is designed specifically with your student in mind.

Whether your child needs help picking up shapes and patterns, multiplication and division, the order of operations, how to read and create graphs, or measurement of length, area, and volume, we may help. Our educational directors may connect you with an elementary math tutor in Tucson after considering all of your child's specific goals and needs. Your tutor may then work with you and your student to create lesson plans that not only target problem areas, but also reinforce strong ones. One-on-one tutoring allows lessons to progress at a student's individual pace and get immediate feedback on their work. A knowledgeable tutor may explain to your child not only how to solve a problem, but why that particular method works. They may also help your student to understand how math may be interesting and fun by connecting problems to real-world situations, as well as your child's interests, hobbies, and even dream careers.

Session Summaries by Elementary Math Tutors

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Rebecca in Tucson, AZ
Concepts covered: similarities and differences of squares, rectangles, triangles, diamonds, etc. We worked quite a bit on number bonds. We found different ways to make the same whole- using manipulatives to aide. Also we used number bonds to subtract. We also worked on counting by twos, patterns, and place value.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Emily in Tucson, AZ
Today's session was productive. We completed the student's assignments and worked on reading comprehension. She's getting better at being able to find the answers in certain passages. After, we did practice problems focusing on subtracting and regrouping to prepare her for her test tomorrow.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Ashley in Tucson, AZ
The student and I started off our session by going over the new material covered in her math class, specifically dividing decimals by multiples of ten. She had a firm understanding of this concept so we didn't spend too much time looking it over. I also brought in a couple worksheets covering a few of the topics we looked at last week such as multiplying decimals and percentages. The multiplying decimals worksheet gave little trouble. The percentages worksheet gave her more trouble, but she remembered some of what we covered last week and she worked the last problem without my help!! Lastly, we covered fractions - adding and subtracting as well as changing from an improper fraction to a mixed number. the student's overall progress has been amazing and I'm so excited to see how she does on her SSAT.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Dana in Tucson, AZ
The student didn't have any homework tonight, as she does not have school tomorrow. We continued working on place value and rounding to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, and ten thousand. She does a great job at creating the largest and smallest number possible from a list of several digits. Overall, she did well on rounding numbers, but needed some reminders about the process for rounding. Finally, we finished by playing a place value card game, which she really enjoyed. She did a great job today!

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Justyn in Tucson, AZ
The student did not have homework, so I did a review with him of concepts we had been learning together such as multiplication, multi-step word problems using adding, subtracting, and multiplication, and subtraction using the borrowing technique. He performed well. I also began to teach him the basic concept of division, creating notes with multiple examples for him to keep. To conclude, we did 15 minutes of 4th grade vocabulary flash cards.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Elizabeth in Tucson, AZ
The student and I went over sections 5.9, 5.10, 6.1-6.6 in our session today. We worked on multiplication (6, 7, 8, and 9 times tables) and multiplying three numbers together. Our focus was on problem solving and our strategy for each problem was the same each time: first read the problem, then identify the facts and the question, decide what operation to use, write an equation, solve, and check. We focused on making sure that we new what we were solving for. She did a great job working through each step before jumping in to answer the question. We looked ahead to see that next in class she will be working on division by 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s. Another great session!
