"The student and I continued working on factoring trinomials and polynomials. Today we focused on factoring special cases. I can see progress from last week because she was able to walk her way through some of the problems on her own. I left her with a few worksheets and told her to do at least one problem each day. She has not fully mastered the topic yet, but I feel with a little more practice it'll be a piece of cake for her. I tried to use real life sayings/examples in order for her to really understand how to work around each problem. "

"We moved on to critical reading this time. We went over problems the student missed on a practice test I sent her, before moving on to passage-based problems. We worked through several of those and talked about how she might be able to keep her interest by knowing exactly what to look for before she starts reading the passage (by reading questions and choices first). We also worked through vocab questions, and she is pretty great at those."

"The student and I covered composition of the central and peripheral nervous system, main and accessory organs of digestion in humans, the process of osmoregulation in marine and freshwater fishes, the process of countercurrent gas exchange in fishes, how the kidneys help maintain homeostasis, the importance of acetylcholine in the human nervous system, synapses, major enzymes involved in digestion, difference between the somatic and autonomic nervous system, difference between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, myelinated vs. unmyelinated neurons, structure and functions of the neuron, and peristalsis in digestion. Again, she struggles with the sheer volume of information for which she is responsible for knowing. She understands concepts, but is sometimes overwhelmed with the number of concepts she has to learn. Yet, she is doing very well with it all, and makes progress every session."

"Today was a prep day for the final she has coming up. We covered (very quickly) history from the Rise of Islam until the Mongol Invasion. Of all those periods she struggled most with Early East Asia and Islamic history. She had a good attitude and we moved at a brisk pace through most of the material. She told me she received a "B" on a test before the winter break, which she was pleased with as it represented an overall improvement."

"For today's session, we talked about fractions. We compared among different quantities and decided what would be the best way to share same amounts of candies with different groups of people. We also talked about the convenience of our arrangement and if there was a better way of sharing quantities. We also saw fraction additions with different denominator, this was the most difficult part for the student, but once he analyzed his answer, he realized his mistake and corrected it immediately."

"The student and I went over some of her homework for Chapter 9. We went over how to find slope and applied this skill to several word problems. We also reviewed vertical intercepts and how to plug in inputs to find outputs in equations and vice versa."

"The student and I worked on volumes of three dimensional objects using the shell method. The shell method is an alternative to the disk method. The shell method is used when a problem is too complicated to solve using the disk method. The student did exceptionally well in the homework problems. She was able to set up the integer and solve the equation. Setting up the integer is usually the most difficult part. "

"During this session, the student and I simultaneously worked practice problems from his study guide for his end of the year test. He did a fantastic job in solving problems involving finding unit rates, solving word problems involving setting up proportions, evaluating algebraic expressions, solving for a single variable, solving and graphing inequalities, evaluating expressions involving exponents, and calculating percentages/discounts. He was able to answer mostly all of the questions correctly. Overall, he displayed confidence in problem-solving with a few frustrations minor mistakes in his answers. However, he was able to successfully go back and explain the correct steps towards the correct answer without prompting. "
