I am more passionate about the latter, and within the humanities I am most passionate about philosophy and English. Chemistry Tutor • +6 Subjects
I was what is referred to as a nontraditional student. I struggled in high school due to undiagnosed ADD. Upon receiving a diagnosis later at age 25 I returned to school. I received a BSCh and MS in Analytical Chemistry from The University of Memphis, a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Vanderbilt University, and served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Indiana University before moving to the Denver area in 2011.I currently homeschool my 13 year-old son, and have tutored throughout my graduate academic career. I have taught undergraduate chemistry labs at levels from introductory courses for non-science backgrounds through advanced mixed graduate/undergraduate classes for chemistry majors. I understand that different people learn in different ways, and that the best teachers adapt their methods to the needs of their students. In addition to my passion for science, I have a love for music. Both of my children belong to the Denver Young Artist Orchestra and have performed musical theater with the Phamaly theater group.

I've been exposed to learning and the educational process for my entire life, making me a great student and an even better teacher. My professional experience includes 5 years of substitute teaching, two summers as a camp counselor, and a year of teaching English at a high school in South Korea.Tutoring, to me, is much more than simply teaching subjects. It's about the process of learning. I aim to help my clients find the skills within themselves to grasp current and future concepts on their own.I look forward to working with you.

College English Tutor • +22 Subjects
After graduating in 2004 from Washington University in St. Louis with a BA in English Literature, I spent some years developing my craft as a writer of fiction and poetry, working for my family in Somerville, MA. In 2012, I decided to switch careers and focus more professionally on my writing, which I accomplished by returning to school to earn my MFA in Creative Writing. I began this second lap through academia at the New School in Manhattan before transferring to St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, where I was part of an inaugural first class based around a new style of teaching writing. I graduated from SJC in 2015.While at St. Joseph's, I gathered experience in the classroom, both as a teacher of the required freshman composition class, as well as a tutor in the school's ACES program. The ACES program caters to international students or students who speak English as a non-primary language. Over the course of my tenure at SJC, I realized that the personal and direct education of the tutor and tutee relationship agrees more with my teaching style than the more generalized teaching in the classroom. I decided to focus on tutoring.I have recently relocated to Providence with my wife and young son, and I am eager to begin a new era in my career in this city.

ACT Prep Tutor • +35 Subjects
I am a current University of Michigan student, working towards a Bachelor's degree in both English and Political Science. I've spent much of my life tutoring, and have experience working with students from pre-K all the way up to, and including, college. I am especially proficient at helping with reading comprehension, literary analysis, close reading, and writing essays. I am also an ACT tutor, and focus on an approach that builds confidence towards the exam, not just repetition. I can also teach algebra and pre-algebra, as well as AP United States History. I am also available to work on college admittance essays and with public speaking.I teach much the way I was taught: learning to recognize my own mistakes. I will never give a student the answer, but I will help them realize where they went wrong so they can focus on their mistakes. Especially in mathematical subjects, the true knowledge is in understanding the process of answering a question, and just knowing the answer is not enough. I work with students to recognize errors, and to help students be able to answer questions by themselves.I have a similar approach in English subjects, where it is very important to develop a thought process when thinking analytically about a piece of writing. Students will learn to recognize grammatical structure and parts of speech, as well as to recognize important literary terms and techniques in writing, and how it contributes to the work as a whole.Outside of the academic realm, I am diehard sports fan, and currently work as a sports journalist. My favorite sport is football, but I watch almost every major sport around the world. I'm also an avid fan of professional wrestling. I also enjoy reading, writing, and playing video games in my spare time, and I love working out and playing sports when the weather is nice. I also love watching stand-up comedy, specifically comedians like Kevin Hart and Jim Gaffigan.

Adult ESL/ELL Tutor • +10 Subjects
I am passionate about helping students learn. It is my joy to see a new student gain a new skill and make a new accomplishment. I have worked with students for five years tutoring multiple subjects in person and four years tutoring English in an online setting. I graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a focus on early childhood development. I have passed several assessments for teachers in both English and Math. I have focused my professional career on teaching and training of children and young adults. Currently I tutor a broad range of subjects, however, my favorite subjects to tutor are English (ESL) and math. I enjoy watching my students gain in their ability to express themselves in English where they were not able to do so before. I also enjoy tutoring Math with the concrete concepts. I enjoy breaking down complex math concepts in a more understandable way for my students and seeing my students excel in an area where they previously struggled gives me great joy. I believe in meeting students where they are and helping them get to where they need to be. I believe that students should be taught, and learn best, when taught according to their learning style. I will always to my best to meet a student where they are and teach them according to how they learn best. In my spare time I enjoy photography, painting, reading, swimming, and traveling.
