Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Rachel in Rhode Island
The student is working on multiplication and division. He is building equations from visual models and word problems. He did very well with this concept. We worked on his homework, and then did some sample problems. He is working on adding and subtracting improper fractions and mixed numbers. We worked on his homework, and then did sample problems. He did very well with this. He should be able to get 100 on the next quiz he has. Student two is also working on fractions. She is doing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with improper fractions and mixed numbers. We worked on her homework, and then did review problems to make sure she is ready for her quiz. She also has a test coming up. She did very well with the material.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Gabriella in Rhode Island
The student is working on the basics of pre-algebra right now. In class, she learned about the number system - whole, rational, integer, irrational, and natural numbers. She had a homework assignment on the number system that I helped review. She is very bright and did not struggle with her homework at all. We then turned our attention to negative numbers and the order of operations. She is struggling with adding and subtracting negative numbers, so we will work on this in the future. Overall, we had another wonderful session.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Royanne in Rhode Island
The student is working very hard to catch up on material that was not taught to her previously. We worked on homework involving 2x2 systems, going back to learn about decimals and fractions. I pointed her to an online resource as a way to help catch up.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Jeff in Rhode Island
The student just finished the unit focusing on normal distributions and standard deviation as a ruler, so we moved on to the next concept: correlation and regression. We started by discussing scatter plots (including ways to efficiently graph by hand), looking for linear patterns and using technology to find the correlation coefficient and line of best fit. I emphasized the importance of interpreting the slope in context of the problem (rate of change) and how the y-intercept may not be meaningful. We also computed predicted values based on a regression model and discussed the difference between interpolation and extrapolation. Finally, we covered the meaning of the correlation coefficient (numerically and strength of association).

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Amber in Rhode Island
The student just started going over the product, quotient, and chain rules in class, so we went over some homework problems on those topics. I showed her my "substitution method" of handling tough derivatives, and I feel it has helped her with these problems. After I showed her this method, she was able to complete the problems much quicker.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Ndidi-Amaka in Rhode Island
The student just started on a new topic this week, simplifying equations, and that is what we spent today's session on. She wasn't too sure what to do in the beginning, but she quickly warmed up to it as time went by. She is still having some problems about the different rules between multiplying and dividing expressions vs. adding and subtracting, so more practice should help in that regard. She has no problem with factoring equations, but knowing when to factor is still a bit confusing for her. She did very well today. It is at times hard for her to focus, but once she started grasping the material, her focus barely wavered.
