Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Benjamin in Portage, IN
The student has a midterm coming up on Thursday. He had many questions he wanted to cover from his assigned exam practice test. Some problems were simple definitions and require memorization, but many were in depth math/conceptual problems that required recognizing the ideal gas law. For each problem in question, we discussed why the given answer was correct and why the other answers were incorrect, such as breaking down to a net ionic equation. The student is extremely strong on most concepts and should do very well on the exam. We will find time in the future to prepare for both the chem exam and the assessment subject test.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Lee in Portage, IN
The student and I reviewed how to balance equations for an upcoming exam. We also covered various solubility rules and the conservation of mass. The student did not struggle with any one issue in particular and demonstrated a lot of knowledge on each subject.

The student and I talked about topics related to, and worked on problems for, work, mechanical energy, conservation of energy, the work-energy theorem, and the relation of all of it to conservative and nonconservative situations. I think he started picking up some basic "tools" to work with in analyzing situations involving these factors, and, with some more practice, I think he will get more comfortable with them.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Coatney in Portage, IN
I helped the student with her lab project by explaining to her organic compounds and the way they are formed. Next, as a review for her upcoming exam, we went over the topics her professor is going to cover on the exam. So we went through density, atomic mass and mass number, Avogadro's law and ideal gas law, dilution formulas, and elements and the octet rule. She struggles with manipulating formulas to isolate the variable. She needs to just practice with more examples in the book so that she feels comfortable. It is easier for her to memorize the end product than to try and get the end product herself.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Katherine in Portage, IN
I helped the student with homework problems, which included some really complex equilibrium questions. These included buffers, Kb problems, titrations, stoichiometry, the Van't Hoff equation (don't see that one much) for calculating the new equilibrium constant at a second temperature given the K at one temperature and the enthalpy of the reaction. We also did problems using Le Chatelier's principle and calculation of a reaction Q value to compare to the reaction Keq to determine whether the reaction will proceed toward the products or back to the reactants.

I helped the student with some thermodynamics questions today. We mainly focused on specific heat and heat capacity. Everything was great.
