Miami, FL Phonics tutoring
Today we began working with some new ending blends like -st and adding -s to make CVC words plural. This needs more practice. The student read _A Bed for Pets_ pretty well. When she focuses and tries her best, she does very well at this level and is very capable. We did some dictation sentences from the book to practice writing complete sentences. Her encoding is great! We do need to continue to practice beginning with capitals and ending with punctuation.

The student and I continued working through the language program. Today we focused on the "k" and "c" sounds in terms of spelling. The student did well and will continue to practice. Then we worked on her writing. She had a "what I did over Christmas break" assignment. I had the student speak the sentences she wanted to write. Then I had her write them on a separate piece of paper. I circled any incorrect spellings and had her re-write them on the paper.

The student, a first-grader, read a chapter in a book, and she worked on writing her essay about her winter break. We had time to work on the "b" sound and writing the letter "b." I had her do it on her own and she read the directions and wrote every "b" perfectly. She had good ideas for the essay too.

The student and I worked on decoding blended sounds today. We focused on "sl" and "sn", and we also explored "st" and "tr". She read many words, which we added to her word list. We also did the T and P pages in her workbook. Then, we read "Alice in Wonderland" together, and she sounded out many of the 3-letter words. Finally, we practiced writing letters in the snow with a stick. It was a very productive lesson! She is now aware that you can put 2 consonants together to make a blend, and was able to both read blended words and think of her own. I did not leave her any extra practice, and I have no concerns!
