Session Summaries by Geometry Tutors

Geometry Tutoring review by David in The University of Utah, UT
Concepts covered this session included angle addition and how to properly set up equations to solve for variables and angle values. The student just needed a little help in word recognition and proper setups. The student was very respectful and things progressed smoothly.

Geometry Tutoring review by Kira in The University of Utah, UT
During this session the student completed the two math sections of a practice SAT exam. She struggled to finish all of the problems on time and therefore left many questions unanswered. Leaving so many blank questions impacted her score. She was also confused at times by the wording of the problems, which caused her to have a lot of errors. After she finished the sections, we discussed strategies for keeping track of time, such as giving herself a minute for each problem before moving on. This way she could at least attempt every problem and still have time to go back and try again and those problems that she skipped. For homework, I asked her to complete the problems that she ran out of time for and to try to self-correct any other problems she got wrong.

Geometry Tutoring review by Melvin in The University of Utah, UT
During this session we went over questions on a review packet the student had on radicals and lines. He didn't seem to know much of the material so there was a lot of explaining on my part. We managed to get through the packet; overall, this session went well.

Geometry Tutoring review by Mark in The University of Utah, UT
During this session, I assessed the students' progress in geometry with a cumulative exam. The first student scored well, but the second student wasn't quite there. I will go over the questions missed by both brothers and plan a lesson for the next session.

Geometry Tutoring review by Alina in The University of Utah, UT
During this session, I introduced the student to biology. We started off at the molecular level, reviewing some chemistry concepts and relating them to life processes. We also covered the importance of water, its unique properties, and pH. I engaged him in the lesson by asking him to consider questions and encouraging critical thinking rather than simply telling him all the information. I also provided several real life examples for each topic.

Geometry Tutoring review by Andrew in The University of Utah, UT
During this session, the student and I focused on algebra. I had him work through problems where he was required to simplify expressions and solve equations that involve fractions. He had a few struggles here and there while working through the problems, but for the most part he did well. Nice work this session!
