Calculus Tutoring review by Juliana in Buffalo, NY
Today we did a review to get the student ready for his test on Friday. We went over using derivatives to graph a function by finding critical numbers, areas of increasing and decreasing, and concavity. We also talked over finding asymptotes. We worked through an example of finding a slant asymptote so help him review polynomial long division. Then we worked through a review homework problem where I had the student walk me through each of the steps. Overall he did well. We found 1 major error, which was when finding increasing and decreasing he was plugging the values into the incorrect equation. We were able to remedy that very quickly. I reminded the student that we only plug our values into the original function if we are finding coordinates. If we are looking the property (i.e. increasing/decreasing and concavity) we plug the values into the appropriate derivative. I suggested he finish up the review homework and double check his answers in the back of the book.

We covered indefinite integrals and reviewed calculus concepts that should be put to memory like the derivatives of trigonometric functions. We mostly went over u substitution and the student seemed to be able to pick up the concepts well. We will want to work on quickly identifying patterns so he won't be pressed for time during tests.

Calculus Tutoring review by Caleb in Buffalo, NY
The student needed to review for a midterm exam. We went over some sample problems and I stressed the areas she was having trouble with. For the trigonometry, she needs to work on memorizing her identities and she seemed to get better at working with them as we did more problems.
