Private In-Home and Online German Tutoring

Receive personally tailored German lessons from exceptional tutors in a one-on-one setting. We help you connect with in-home and online tutoring that offers flexible scheduling and your choice of locations.

Reach out to Varsity Tutors if you or a student in your family needs a patient and experienced Buffalo German tutor. Studying German can be a rewarding experience, but there can also be times when you might get stumped by difficult grammar points and peculiarities in the language. Buffalo German tutoring can be an excellent way to get the support you need to overcome difficulties in your German studies.

How can a Buffalo German tutor near me help me work towards fluency?

German grammar can be intimidating, especially if you're a beginner. There are some aspects of the language that are different from English. For example, German uses gendered nouns (masculine, feminine, and neuter) that you must conjugate depending on the case (nominative, accusative, genitive, and dative) and number (singular, plural). There are also definite articles (der, die, das) and indefinite articles (ein, eine) that you need to change to indicate the gender, case, and the number of the noun.

If you're struggling with German grammar, sentence structure, or any other topic about the language, Buffalo German tutors can help you learn these topics thoroughly during your one-on-one sessions. You can study at your own pace and ask as many questions as you need until you get a good grasp of the topic you're trying to learn. Since there are no other students, you don't need to feel self-conscious about your questions. You'll receive 100% of the attention of your instructor and get relevant answers and immediate feedback during your language exercises or drills.

Private instruction through Buffalo German tutoring lets you focus your effort and time on topics and skills that you need to improve on rather than the ones you already know. This personalized approach to learning is not easy to do in a traditional classroom setup where the teacher needs to follow a set curriculum and stick to a schedule. If you already have a good understanding of German cases and how they work, you can dedicate more of your lesson time to speaking practice with your teacher so that you can start using the grammar rules you've learned in actual conversation. You can have a more efficient study experience and could improve your German language skills in a shorter time.

How can I fit time with Buffalo German tutors into my schedule?

One major advantage of private lessons is flexibility. You can set your own study schedule and attend lessons at a place that's convenient for you. We do the work of finding a qualified instructor who can meet you or your student on your proposed schedule. This flexibility makes it possible for you to pursue your German studies even while juggling work, school, and other personal obligations.

The private lessons are available either online or in person. The online lessons take place on our proprietary Live Learning Platform where you'll meet your teacher and have real-time lessons through video chat. The platform has a virtual whiteboard and a shared document editor that you and your teacher can use when working on verb conjugation exercises or writing German sentences. If you can't remember an important point or study tip your teacher discussed, you can watch recordings of your past lessons to help you in your review.

If you or your student prefer face-to-face lessons, we recommend in-person instruction. It's flexible like the online lessons since you can set the time of your lessons and choose the location where you want to meet your teacher. You can attend lessons at home, at your office, at a café, or at libraries like the Reinstein Memorial Library or the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library.

We also offer online German courses if you're interested in taking both private lessons and online courses. There's a wide range of course times to choose from and new sections start on a monthly basis, so there is never a long wait if you want to enroll in a specific section. The course lets you practice German together with other enthusiastic learners in a collaborative online environment.

German Tutoring review by Anke in Buffalo, NY
First, the student and I talked about her German experience and what she has learned so far from classes in GER. I explained a few general concepts of the case system in German grammar and also definite and indefinite articles. We then conversed for the remaining time and I explained grammar rules using examples of our conversation. She has a very good solid base of vocabulary and also understands how to construct basic sentences and her pronunciation is very good. We will be mainly working on increasing her ‰Û÷Wortschatz' and to gain the confidence to talk. Along the way I will work on grammar where needed. This was a great lesson.

German Tutoring review by William in Buffalo, NY
The student and I had a good session; we did more reading the same Wikipedia article that we did the last session. He has been making steady progress for a year, and he is ready to start getting in there. I am really pushing him to just start reading things and learn advanced vocabulary. Sure, he still has to get a firmer grasp on the cases and word order changes, but that will come with time. He's done a good job just staying the course.

The student just had a test, so it was time to start a new unit. She said she really liked how we worked ahead last unit, so we did the same thing this time. We worked through all the vocabulary and then started on her workbook assignments. She got most of them done. Next time, we will work on creating flashcards so we can practice later.

German Tutoring review by Katherine in Buffalo, NY
During this session, we went over some old vocabulary, like clothing and weather and rooms in the house. We also began to learn new vocabulary concerning food, and phrases to ask when in a restaurant. Additionally, I gave the student some new verbs and assigned her the task of conjugating them over the course of the week.

German Tutoring review by Andrew in Buffalo, NY
The first session was very productive. It was spent looking at what the students wanted to get out of the sessions, and it was determined that they wanted conversational progress. We talked conversationally for the entire session about each other's interests and lives. For the next session, I'd like him to look at a schlager and take a look at what it means.

German Tutoring review by Noel in Buffalo, NY
The student has a chapter test coming in a week. Luckily, the teacher provided a rather comprehensive review packet for us to use. Today, we did a lot of reading comprehension, since I know this is one of the areas where he struggles. We got through a section on the test prep packet, and there are other sections we will cover at our next meeting.
