Recent New Britain AP US Government Tutoring Session Notes
The student is going to be having an exam this week so the entire session was spent reviewing for that. I helped her create a study guide and then tested her on the information. It was a successful session and the student seems very prepared for the exam.
The student had to study for his exam in Religion so we read through the assigned pages and I asked him to write out keywords and their definitions. This made it easier for him to retain the information and give the corrects answers when I quizzed him. We also completed his Social Studies homework where he had to answer some discussion questions about religion, schooling, and food during the Colonial Era. I emphasized the fact that he needed to write his answers in his own words and use complete sentences. He was studying for an exam and I quizzed him on keywords as well. Next I went over the math homework that he had already completed.
We worked on her social studies section for the week; took notes and read aloud. She showed me her paper we worked on together and she got 87.5 out of 90.
We also read the story together for comprehension and fluency.
The student wrote four paragraphs summing up our research on King Tut. We are compiling a rough draft at this point. I helped by typing his writing into bullet points, so he has all of his notes translated into decent sentences and put into a rational outline. Next he has to decide what things we will need to add to make good transitions between sentences, maybe adding new material. He also might decide to drop some of the facts in the outline. He has until Monday to do this, so we can work on a full rough draft.
The student and I worked on his Math and Social Studies, in preparation for 2 upcoming tests. I urge him to review the definitions we made, and remember to make the connections regarding money and power, and their importance in American Imperialism. Memorization is only the beginning, making connections is the key to success.
