Statistics Tutoring review by Richelle in New Britain, CT
The client is an undergraduate student majoring in biology. She is taking an introductory statistics course. She needed help interpreting an article for which she must write a critique. The article was from 1994 and very dense. It was on the subject of p-values and the author's conclusion that they are misinterpreted and not as valuable as most people might think when it comes to Null Hypothesis Statistical Testing. We went through the article, made sure she was clear on the author's premises, and his suggestions, and discussed her thoughts on the issue. When she finished she said that she was ready to write her paper.

We worked on Analysis of Regression for the student's stats final. We went through a practice problem from her book. We worked using the calculator and also how to complete the problem by hand. Specifically we worked on calculating the regression line, using it to make predictions, and performing regression analysis to determine if the regression model is significantly different from a model with no slope. She did well with understanding the material. We just had to work on interpreting significant P-values a bit.

This session was spent mainly discussing the student's perception of the course material. I asked her to give me a detailed listing of topics she was concerned with so I may provide a more structured presentation of the material to suit her needs. I will meet with her tomorrow to provide this presentation.

Statistics Tutoring review by Sammy in New Britain, CT
The student is very bright and thrives on this fast-paced 1-on-1 approach - she was understanding everything I explained with ease. She clearly has a lot of natural math ability. I'm confident that as she comes to me with new concepts, I can get her up to speed. Today we covered z-scores and percent conversions, as well as binomial and geometric distribution. Looking forward to the next session!

Statistics Tutoring review by Brian in New Britain, CT
The student and I continued to make progress on his final project. We specifically drafted an outline for the project, a research paper, which includes an introduction, methods, as well as writing-up results of descriptive statistics analyses and inferential statistics analyses (e.g., independent samples t tests, ANOVA, and chi-square). I provided him with templates to complete this information so he can make good head way on this assignment on his own so that the next time we meet we can really maximize our time together. You're making great progress on your final project.
