Session Summaries by Accounting Tutors

Accounting Tutoring review by Kory in New Haven, CT
Worked on physics today. The student has a very good grasp on the vast majority of subjects covered during the semester. Key points to keep in mind include: SI prefixes (how they increase by factors of 1000 until 10^3, where it goes down by a factor of 10); unit conversions utilizing picket fences (no matter how simple, it will come in handy later on); and unequal angle distribution in regards to tension. Good luck on your final!

Accounting Tutoring review by Tamara in New Haven, CT
I shared with the student and parent that 80% of comprehension is vocabulary knowledge. As the student is reading her current novel, when she does not understand a phrase or does not know the meaning of a word, we discuss it. The students needs to practice using the context as a strategy for unlocking the meanings of unfamiliar words. When she is reading independently on her own during the week, she is writing the words and the page numbers in a vocabulary log, so we can discuss them during the next session. She also read more in the Titanic book.

Accounting Tutoring review by Lariz in New Haven, CT
For this tutoring session, the student and I reviewed the area and perimeter of geometric figures to jog her memory before I introduced volume to her. She followed the formula well, though I spent a few minutes trying to help her understand the concept of volume as opposed to merely memorizing the formula. After the new material, I gave her a little quiz similar to the one in the previous session though instead of giving her 40 minutes for 20 questions, I gave her 25 minutes for 20 questions. She verbalized concern about not having enough time to complete the quiz but she ultimately completed the quiz and did just as well this time as she did on the first quiz (with different questions of course). After completing this, we reviewed the questions and went over her reasoning. We ended the session with an introduction to an array of new vocabulary words.

We covered exponents and word problems in many different ways. The student seemed to grasp the subjects very much by the end of our session and was excited that he understood how to do it all without instruction.
