We covered the work that the student completed since our last session. We discussed the questions she has answered regarding chapters 1-3. We went through the chapter one review and identified areas that she could use some additional clarification. I gave her two areas to focus on that we will review in our next session as well as a documentary from a website to watch and write a summary on (Roanoke). For English we practiced annotating and discussed the function and purpose of annotations. We covered literary elements (which we will be incorporating and using in the following sessions).

We continued to work on selective enrollment exam concepts and focused on proportions and percent change problems today. The majority of questions were word problems, and the student was having trouble discerning what the question was ultimately asking. This was the original problem she had with this unit a few months ago, so next week I'd like to dedicate a part of our session to making some flash cards with trigger words.

The student and I did her final session before the upcoming Math test. She had already started the test in school, but we covered some things that she either struggled on or wanted more practice in. We went over inequalities, graphing, finding the midpoint, Pythagorean theorem and Geometry. The student seemed very comfortable with this material and eager to get the test over with. We discussed the importance of taking her time, even if she feels rushed by the teacher.

Once again, we worked on Time Series. Though the student has a basic understanding of the concepts, she has been having a bit of trouble actually applying them in practice on assignments. After reviewing the concepts behind ARIMA and GARCH, we worked through a practice assignment that involved actually analyzing a data set in R.

This week we finished looking at the different types of sentences and the corresponding punctuation. We finished looking at the different types of nouns: proper vs. common, singular vs. plural, regular vs. irregular, collective vs. compound, concrete vs. abstract, predicate nouns vs. predicate adjectives, etc. When we meet next week, we will briefly review nouns and then go onto verbs.

The student and I covered carbocations, carbocation rearrangements, Sn1 vs E1 similarities and differences, protic vs aprotic solvents, Sn2 vs E2 similarities and differences, a good base vs a good nucleophile. We also worked on determining all products from a reaction, determining major kinetic and major thermodynamic products.
