Teaching has been a passion of mine since second grade, when my teacher saw something in me that no one else saw and lit that spark in me to fall in love with learning and education. Ever since then I've followed that passion into becoming an educator. I currently teach Pre-K and have experience teaching elementary school, working one-on-one with at-risk students, teaching english language learners, and tutoring students in different academic areas. Tutoring students gives me the chance to help a student who may be struggling, needs that extra motivation or wants to take the extra step. When working one-on-one with students I am able to keen in on their individual learning style and help them learn the best way they can.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Children are curious beings by nature, and as a teacher it is my goal to help guide that curiosity in a way that is meaningful to the child and their education. I will provide my students with the tools they need to grow and foster their curiosity, so they can grow into independent learners. I believe in teaching to the individual needs of each student and to relate what they do in the classroom to the world around them. Students will learn basic core principles of respect, responsibility, integrity and independence in my classroom; principals they can carry on into their futures.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session with a student, I would start to get to know them and their learning style so I can best support them. After that I would focus on the task at hand.

I can help a student become an independent learner by giving them the tools they need to succeed and providing them with resources they can use on their own.
