Hello, my name is Eric! I'm originally from Erie, PA, where I graduated from Gannon University with a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry. While at Gannon University I spent time working in the Math & Science Center, tutoring fellow undergraduate students in various math and science subjects, including : calculus I, calculus II, pre-calculus, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. I also tutored students in various chemistry subjects as well as physics I and II. After graduating from Gannon University, I moved to Richmond, VA to get my PhD in Chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University. At VCU, I took several graduate level chemistry courses that have sharpened my expertise, as well as engaging in graduate level research for the past five years, specializing in physical chemistry, and publishing two first-author papers in ACS Langmuir. In addition, I worked as a TA at VCU for all five of my years there, teaching students in introductory chemistry, general chemistry I, general chemistry II, and physical chemistry I-III.Tutoring at Gannon University made me fall in love with teaching and fueled my desire to become a professor, leading to my decision to go to VCU for my PhD. I am extremely passionate about science and love helping students come to a place of understanding and appreciation for the material they are learning. The "ah-ha!" moment when students go from confusion to understanding is something I take great joy in and hope to continue to do so by tutoring through wyzant.

My main objective is to be a personable tutor. I want to accomplish meeting the needs of students. I have always been surrounded my teaching my entire life as both my mom and sister are both educators. I have worked in-person with children as both a tutor and as a care-taker for last last several years. Although I am currently pursing an Aerospace Engineering degree at the University of Maryland, I thoroughly enjoy education and hope to help out as much as possible!

I graduated from Prescott College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and teaching certificate in Elementary Education K-8. I received my ELL Endorsement for K-12 and my Early Childhood Endorsement for birth- age 8. I also did the majority of my undergraduate work at the University of Arizona with a major in Economics and a minor in Sociology. I taught first grade for 15 years and did my student teaching and volunteer work in 3rd grade. I have also raised my own three children who are now in high school, college and graduated as an RN. While I am able to tutor a broad range of subjects and grades, I am most passionate in working with kids on their foundational skills in Reading, Writing and Math. I do also have a strong background in Phonics. I absolutely love teaching and helping kids develop a love of learning. I enjoy seeing students have successes in their educational journey and helping them reach those successes. I love being a part of the process of helping kids master a concept that may have previously been a struggle for them. I feel that reading is the foundation for all of us and have taken pride in being an integral part of my previous students successes in reading. In my previous teaching experience, I have been a Special Education cluster teacher as well as an ELL cluster teacher. I have worked with students that have developmental delays, IEPs, 504s, speech and language delays, gifted students as well as students in the mainstream classroom. I am a recent graduate of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Womens & Gender Studies. Having been a science nerd throughout high school, I knew that I would want to study biochemistry at university, but I also wanted to strengthen my writing, analytical, and research abilities in a non-scientific context. So focusing on both was perfect for me because I was able to develop analytical and problem-solving skills in two very different contexts. Having this background also allows me to feel comfortable tutoring a range of subjects.My tutoring style can best be described as collaborative. Much of the time the problems we will tackle together will be difficult or confusing, and I will guide our work to hone in on exactly where the difficulty lies. While working to use our time efficiently, I also believe that an intense, lecture-driven approach is rarely conducive to fostering an atmosphere of curiosity and willingness to try. Therefore, I will regularly solicit feedback, encourage questions, and assess what methods work best for you so that I can adjust my approach accordingly. Having tutored students since high school, I firmly believe that learning and education can be life-changing when we are curious, determined, and willing to make mistakes.When I am not tutoring or working in healthcare, I enjoy playing guitar, singing in a community choir, and watching college basketball.
