My father loved camping and the out of doors and so some of my earliest memories are of camping in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. As a family, we took extended trips through the western United States, Canada and Alaska, towing a travel trailer and camping in mostly primitive camps. As a young teen, I started backpacking in the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado and developed a great love for the mountain and canyon country of the west. It was this great love of nature that attracted me to science--first as a Forestry major at Northern Arizona University but which eventually evolved to the study of chemistry, as that seemed to me the basic science that was as the heart of understanding nature. While my love of learning was probably instilled in me very early in my life (thanks to my parents, I was an avid reader), it really came out while in college. In finishing my chemistry degree, I realized I was just beginning to learn what I wanted to learn and went on to graduate school to get a PhD studying Physical Chemistry at Purdue University.I am now retired from full time teaching, but not from my love of learning (nor my love of the mountains) which has continually evolved. My experiences of teaching science from demonstrations in elementary school to graduate level courses have given me a great interest in the teaching of science to the general public and sharing with others, that same awe, wonder and appreciation I have."To become educated is to become more human."

I am a graduate student for a highly ranked (top 20 in the US) program for chemistry, where I taught undergraduate courses for over ten semesters. I am experienced in working both in large lecture-style environments and reviews, as well as one-on-one problem solving with students. My background is in chemistry, but I can also tutor subjects up to first and second year college math and physical sciences. I try to incorporate strategies that would use the existing strengths and skills of the student when dealing with difficult problems, and I recognize the importance of motivation in succeeding in learning and education.

I currently attend the University of California Irvine. I am pursuing a degree in Biology and will graduate in 2014. Ever since middle school, I have been infatuated with the sciences. I've always had a fascination with trying to understand the world around me. This mentality has fueled my intense interest in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. I prefer to approach the sciences with an introspective lens as a tool to figure out a piece of a grand puzzle, rather than as an isolated unit. In addition to tutoring science classes, I have also helped many students with standardized testing yielding great results. In my free time I enjoy playing music, biking, and reading.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky in 2007 and my Master's of Science in Chemistry from Georgia Tech in 2010. Following graduation, I worked as a chemistry professor for 3 1/2 years at Gordon State College teaching General College Chemistry I & II (chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry) and Organic Chemistry I & II. For the first two years that I was a chemistry instructor I was the youngest faculty member on campus and my classes would always be among the first to fill up. In my classroom, my colleagues would describe me as being the goofiest person in the room but it was something that I found necessary to connect with my students. Being a younger professor I remember what it was like to be a student and I remember the things that truly got my attention. I would teach my classes using superheroes, football references, mythbusters, and even relate some material to the school bus. In my office hours, I would be able to find out what interested the students and come up with an example that they would be able to understand. In the sciences, I believe learning should be as much hands on as possible and I used a variety of outside resources to teach various concepts, whether it would be using balloons, dry ice, tennis balls and paper wads, or even LIGHTING WATER ON FIRE. In addition to all of the chemistry subjects (up to a graduate level), I am qualified to teach physics, algebras 1-4, geometry, pre-calculus, and can do SAT and ACT math prep.Outside of the classroom I enjoy watching football and college basketball, going to broadway shows like the Book of Mormon, Wicked, and Monty Python's Spamalot, and going to comic book conventions. After experiencing DragonCon while living in the Atlanta area, there is nothing more fun than watching people dress up in Halloween costumes when it's not Halloween. Finally, I am an avid bowler and love to cook as these are my releases when I am over stressed.

I bring a unique blend of academic excellence and professional expertise to tutoring, with three advanced degrees, a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (graduating magna cum laude and third in my class), a Master's in Computer Science specializing in Cognitive Artificial Intelligence, and an MBA in Finance with a focus on investment analysis. My academic journey began with tutoring my younger siblings in Math and Science, which grew into leading study groups of up to 50 students across grades 612. Over time, I expanded my teaching to college-level Physics, Mathematics, and Applied Mechanics, helping students connect complex theories to real-world applications.Throughout graduate school, I served as a teaching and research assistant, tutoring freshmen and sophomores in core subjects such as Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, and Physics. My teaching philosophy is rooted in Educational Essentialism, a structured, progressive approach that equips students to master increasingly difficult concepts while preparing them for higher academic and intellectual challenges. Recognized for academic excellence, including receiving the CITGO Graduate Student Award, I emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom. In addition to academic tutoring, I bring more than 20 years of professional experience in finance, engineering, and data-driven problem solving. I am proficient in QuickBooks, financial modeling, and exam preparation for competitive assessments such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, SHSAT, and FINRA licensing exams (SIE, Series 7, and Series 79). Whether guiding a high school student through Calculus or helping a professional prepare for a finance certification, I create a personalized, engaging learning environment where students build confidence and achieve measurable results.

I have worked as a teaching assistant of Math 155r (Combinatorics) at Harvard University, where I got my B.A. in Applied Mathematics in 2017, and will be teaching (most likely) Calculus starting in the fall of 2017, while I begin my Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I have worked as a tutor (ranging from middle school to high school/SAT math) since 2010, and have also enjoyed tutoring other subjects, such as SAT English, physics, and chemistry. I am extremely invested in making challenging topics less intimidating and am happy to work with students of all levels!I have worked as a math tutor since 2010, and really enjoy working with students to help find contexts that make mathematics more understandable and relatable. Further, I am personally very interested in mathematics, since I will be working in math research/teaching as a graduate student.I became proficient in French in 2013 following high school, after which I have maintained proficiency by taking upper-level French courses and taking part in immersive experiences such as working for French-speaking families. Since I grew up a native English speaker, I understand the difficulties that come with learning a new language, and am excited to help people work through these challenges and enjoy the benefits of multilingualism.

I hold a Ph.D. from Columbia University and bring over twenty years of tutoring and teaching experience. I provide highly personalized one-on-one lessons in all areas of chemistry, physics and math.Throughout my career, tutoring and teaching has been one of my passions. I have tutored over a hundred students spanning a broad range of ages and backgrounds, from elementary school through post-graduate continuing education. The subjects I taught include quantitative and subject (Chemistry and Physics) SAT preparation, all areas of math, chemistry and physics, as well as preparation for the New York State Exams. My classroom teaching experience encompassed nearly four years as a full-time faculty member at Boston College, where I taught undergraduate and graduate courses in chemistry. In addition, I worked as math instructor for an advanced after-school program for children in grades 1-8.I believe that personal tutoring is one of the most effective methods of teaching as it allows the pace of the lessons to be carefully matched to the student, so that learning is at the same time challenging, but not overwhelming. Based on my experience, I can guarantee improvement, regardless of your current level or background.
