I began tutoring my fellow peers in Chemistry when I was a Sophomore in High School. I enjoy sharing my own techniques and tools to help obtain a different level of understanding. Critical and logical thinking is my main way of thinking. I enjoy the moment when something "clicks" to the person I am tutoring/teaching, it is a great feeling to know that methods and ways work and that the students enjoy learning, I love when they get excited that they finally achieved a level of understanding. I am currently on track to become a high school Chemistry teacher, tutoring is something I have always enjoyed over the past 10 years!

I am currently an adjunct professor of chemistry at a small liberal arts college in the Chicago area. Previously, I worked in the chemical industry for several years as a researcher, but I've found that the most satisfying moments have come when I am able to share my expertise with someone else. Similarly, I very much enjoyed the four semesters in the graduate school when I was a teaching assistant. It gave me the opportunity to work with students and help them develop an understanding for the subject. These are the primary reasons that I have decided to go into teaching.I have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech and dual BS degrees in chemical engineering and biochemistry from UW-Madison.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Arizona State University. I have tutored friends and family in mathematics and physical sciences. Additional, I have given interactive demonstrations to elementary students focused on the importance of building strong math and science skills. I also conducted study groups with classmates throughout my undergraduate studies. I am proficient in and enjoy tutoring many mathematical and physical science subjects; including algebra, trigonometry, calculus, chemistry, and physics. My hope is to spark the passion and appreciation for math and science in all those whom I tutor. Finding the relationship between the fundamental principles and real life applications is how I help to build a strong understanding of key concepts and a desire to learn more. These ideas continue into my hobbies and interests: I have a strong desire to learn more whether that involves reading a scientific publication or through my own research. I also enjoy the challenge of golf and chess, woodworking, and watching my three year old twin boys explore and learn.

Understanding the process of how to solve a question is crucial when it comes to math and science classes. That's why I help my students to figure out answers on their own as opposed to telling them the answers. I ask my students questions to lead them through the solving process, which engages them and makes them more likely to learn and remember the material. I also think learning and laughing work well together, so I make my tutoring sessions educational and fun.I graduated from Williams College in 2012, where I majored in biology and completed pre-medical studies. I also spent a semester in Spain, taking all classes in Spanish at a Spanish university. After graduation, I went to Africa for six months. I spent three months in Tanzania teaching English and three months in Mozambique working as a research assistant at a health clinic. My international teaching experience helped me become a more creative teacher because I often had to improvise on the spot when my students didn't understand me, which happens quite a lot when you and your students don't speak the same language. Since returning from Africa, I've been working as a math, science, and English tutor for high school students. Forging meaningful relationships and watching my students succeed are what I like most about tutoring.

I received my degree in Chemistry from the Queen's College, The University of Oxford, England. Oxford and Cambridge Universities are unique in that they give one on one college tutoring with world class specialists in organic, physical and inorganic chemistry and consequently as well as learning about the subject in great depth, you also learn to debate and discuss complex Chemistry in a formal but relaxed way. It requires a lot of hard work and effort, but the result is an excellent understanding of the subject. I then completed a Ph.D. at the University of Oxford under Dr. Jim Thomas who is now Professor of Chemistry at the University of Manchester, where I worked on natural product synthesis. My professional career has been as a Medicinal Chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, where I have supervised many graduate chemists, whom I have encouraged and mentored. I love the subtle nuances of Organic Chemistry, and the beauty of chemical reactions, where small changes in solvents, or catalysts can lead to dramatic improvements in yields, and sometimes to completely different reaction pathways. You are always learning new things, and with practical work always have to watch and monitor your reaction. Chemistry encourages multi-layered thinking and always being open to new ideas. I encourage my students to be creative and to always be open to new ways of looking at things.I am of a philosophical nature, and have a very broad general knowledge which includes, History, Geography, Art, Literature, Music and current affairs. In my spare time I manage a 1/2 acre formal English garden at my home in Newtown, and do wood carving in my workshop during the winter months. I am the Stewardship Chair at my local church, St. Luke's in Newtown, and also participate in colonial era re-enactment with The Washington Crossing Volunteers.I enjoy teaching Chemistry, and try to impart a love of learning, particularly in thinking critically about things. My time in research has taught me the virtues of collaboration, but also in being strong about what you believe in.

I have been teaching and tutoring non-stop for the past three and a half years. I taught high school chemistry and general science, running labs, lessons, and anything else that was required. While doing that, I started teaching LSAT classes after work. Now, I'm a full time tutor, devoted to helping students score higher on tests and do better in classes. Because I've been a science teacher, I know how they think, why they do certain labs, and what they're likely to ask in tests. For LSAT, I've never worked with a student one-on-one and not raised his or her score.I love teaching, and would love to work with you!

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky in 2007 and my Master's of Science in Chemistry from Georgia Tech in 2010. Following graduation, I worked as a chemistry professor for 3 1/2 years at Gordon State College teaching General College Chemistry I & II (chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry) and Organic Chemistry I & II. For the first two years that I was a chemistry instructor I was the youngest faculty member on campus and my classes would always be among the first to fill up. In my classroom, my colleagues would describe me as being the goofiest person in the room but it was something that I found necessary to connect with my students. Being a younger professor I remember what it was like to be a student and I remember the things that truly got my attention. I would teach my classes using superheroes, football references, mythbusters, and even relate some material to the school bus. In my office hours, I would be able to find out what interested the students and come up with an example that they would be able to understand. In the sciences, I believe learning should be as much hands on as possible and I used a variety of outside resources to teach various concepts, whether it would be using balloons, dry ice, tennis balls and paper wads, or even LIGHTING WATER ON FIRE. In addition to all of the chemistry subjects (up to a graduate level), I am qualified to teach physics, algebras 1-4, geometry, pre-calculus, and can do SAT and ACT math prep.Outside of the classroom I enjoy watching football and college basketball, going to broadway shows like the Book of Mormon, Wicked, and Monty Python's Spamalot, and going to comic book conventions. After experiencing DragonCon while living in the Atlanta area, there is nothing more fun than watching people dress up in Halloween costumes when it's not Halloween. Finally, I am an avid bowler and love to cook as these are my releases when I am over stressed.

I graduated from the Johns Hopkins University in May 2014 with a B.A. in Chemistry and Biology, and I am currently a graduate student at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. My teaching experience spans several years and age groups. As a high school student, I volunteered as a teaching assistant for a middle school science class. During college, I spent six months as a GED tutor, working with adults. Later, I spent two years as an Organic Chemistry Laboratory teaching assistant. I am a friendly and outgoing person, and I really enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge with others. I particularly like working with middle school and high school students, as I can challenge them and help them build strong foundations during some of their most important academic years!
