I'm a summa cum laude graduate of both undergraduate and medical school, recently matched into dermatologyone of the most competitive specialties in medicine. I have a deep love for teaching and especially enjoy tutoring COMLEX Level 1 & 2, USMLE Step 1 & Step 2 CK, and all things related to medicine. Before starting residency, I'm excited to give back by helping students build confidence, master complex concepts, and achieve their academic goals.

I earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina in 2013. I double majored in Chemistry and Mathematics on top of completing a Pre-Med track that included biology and physics courses. For the past year I've worked in a research lab studying childhood leukemia, and I plan on attending medical school in the next year. I am a graduate of Grand Valley State University and I obtained my degree in Allied Health Sciences. Currently, I am attending Old Dominion University to complete my master's degree in biology with an emphasis in microbiology/immunology. I have much experience in the education field beginning with my time as a preschool teacher for 1 year. Additionally, upon my undergraduate graduation, I worked as a full-time substitute teacher for grades K-8. I have experience teaching all subjects in K-8 classrooms. I am most passionate about tutoring science, especially biology, as this is the field I have spent most of my time in. Hello! I'm Abigail and I'm a recent graduate from Oberlin College. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry, with a concentration in Pre-Med studies. Aside from my interest in the sciences, I explored my passion for Russian Politics, Culture, and Literature. I traveled to Russia several times to work on journalism projects and was published in the Oberlin Review for my work in interviewing notable activists and researching grassroots movements in Russia. While in Russia, I taught English for children of migrant families, and in Istanbul, Turkey, I continued my ESL teaching for Syrian refugees. I especially love tutoring students topics in Biology and Chemistry, and I believe that with guidance and dedication, anyone can succeed in STEM and learn to appreciate the sciences.

I tutor because I know what it’s like to struggle in school. I’ll never forget the day my high school counselor told me I might never go to college. Her words stung, but the inspiration the words gave me is irreplaceable.She drove me to succeed. My new found motivation propelled me from a C student to the top ten percent of my graduating high school class. From there I began my degree in Biochemistry at Western Washington University, which I will receive in June 2015.I tutor chemistry, physics, biology and math. I also provide test prep for the SAT and MCAT. I have worked at my university’s tutoring center for over a year. This taught me to teach quickly and effectively. I never had more than 15 minutes with a student, but my job depended on my ability to help them understand a concept, whether it was algebra or organic chemistry. I also worked with the Compass 2 Campus program, where I tutored and mentored middle school students from low-income schools.I always like to get to know the students I work with. I love hearing about their goals and interests. It allows me to tailor my style to each individual student, and make coursework relevant to them. During my time in Pittsburgh, I spent three years in a student-run tutoring organization working with a family of seven. We covered most subjects in both elementary and high school levels. I also did some tutoring with other college students in my program and have four younger siblings I have helped over the years. Although my specialties are math and science, with an emphasis on Algebra, Biology and Anatomy, I have experience in most subjects. If there is one philosophy I have maintained over the years, it is this: everyone has a unique mind and learns in an unique way. It is my job as a tutor to figure out what approach works best. Outside of academia, I like to read, watch movies, visit my friends, try new restaurants and explore places I haven't been before.

I personally like to deconstruct problems in to smaller chunks and explain each part individually. Then, we will put them all back together and come up with a solid solution. Understanding how you got an answer is much more important than just answering a question.My best subject is biology but, I'm pretty good with most of the sciences and math.
