I will patiently and persistently guide you or your student to understand the mechanics of the subject and identify which key elements are lacking in their understanding. I easily identify the learning style unique to each student and can teach to suit his or her needs. I am able to tell quickly how a particular student thinks and best learns, and from there I can either make the lessons more game-like or memory based. In every case, I approach the subject or concerning area from the most basic root and build from there. I have been working with children since middle school which made me a very patient tutor in college. Aside from helping my classmates, I formally worked as an English tutor through the Universidad Complutense, the Spanish University at which my study abroad program resided.

I am going to be a senior in college at Penn State. I am majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders, working on my Bachelor of Science. I am on the pre-med track, and in the Schreyer Honors College. I am strong in the sciences, especially biology, and am able to work with students on general science courses. I have strong organizational skills and study habits so I can help students improve these habits if needed. My different mentoring experiences have all left positive impressions. I thoroughly enjoy seeing students thrive especially the moment things "click." Reaching an understanding of different subjects is my main goal as a tutor and helping students realize learning can be exciting. Being able to help students succeed is rewarding. Helping others in various ways is one of my passions and has led my drive to become a physician. Outside of my academics, I enjoy listening to a variety of music, and playing and watching sports. Remaining active keeps me focused during the academic year.

I am a current second-year at the University of Virginia, studying Biochemistry and Computer Science. I have deep aspirations in going to medical school and eventually pursing a career in orthopedics but have always been passionate in the art of teaching. Throughout my high school career, I created a free weekly tutoring program for underprivileged students in my area called GIVE Youth. The program quickly grew to have around thirty students, all from different backgrounds. I truly believe that those fortunate enough to have access to a quality education are bound to assisting others, with altruism as the sole motivation. I've also worked at Mathnasium, tutoring math of course, and test prep. These experiences have allowed me to tutor a variety of students, refining my own teaching skills in the process. I am a big proponent of building strong content foundations for students, allowing them to master prerequisite skills before advancing to rigorous topics. This strategy allows for a steady progression in overall learning and minimizes burnout. I am most comfortable teaching Chemistry, Biology, Algebra, and Calculus, but am willing to venture into other subjects as needed. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy weightlifting, watching football/tennis, and playing chess.

I am a Laboratory Manager at Case Western Reserve University. In 2011, I completed a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. My classes included a variety of invertebrate and vertebrate zoology specialties, as well as chemistry, cell and molecular biology. I also completed a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University in 2018. I have worked in medical research labs since 2009, and love learning and discovering new things through experimentation. As a lab manager, I have had to teach new personnel basic and advanced skills required for working in an animal research facility as well as a cell culture lab. Through this training, I discovered I have a passion for teaching, and would like to expand my passion into tutoring students. While I have a good foundation in a variety of Biology, Chemistry and Math subjects, I am most passionate about Vertebrate zoology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Algebra. I believe that everyone's learning style is different, and as the tutor, it is my job to figure out how best to present the information so the student becomes engaged, and realizes how much fun and interesting these subjects can be.

Hi there! If there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that I genuinely enjoy tutoring. I'm also a "professional" student. I say this because absorbing, analyzing, and integrating knowledge from my medical courses are necessary skills for my own academic success. And so, I am more than happy to share my study strategies, techniques, and tips with students. My strengths lie within the sciences (e.g. AP Biology, Biochemistry, AP Chemistry), followed by mathematics. I also enjoy teaching and tutoring Latin. Believe me when I say it's a beautiful language! During my pursuit of an M.D. degree, I have acquired a minor of Psychology, which has taught me to help others with a holistic approach.

As a first generation student, I was always taught that knowledge is power. The first priority in our life would be education because it would be what freed us from the confines of what previous generations endured. I am committed to fostering that intellect, individuality, and excitement that students deserve when it comes to pursuing their goals. I understand the road blocks, the exhaustion, the frustrations, and I want to do my best to make those disappear.I was bullied in school for my brown skin and embarrassed by teachers for not speaking English at home. It turns out that ethics and judgement are skewed when attending school in a city ranked, “one of the whitest in America.” Those learning environments were privileged, and yet personally unapproachable and uninspiring due to the stereotypes surrounding my ethnicity. If it was not language it was appearance. If not appearance, it was my cultural or religious beliefs. I learned I would need to fight to foster my individuality and intellect. There was always something that didn’t sit right with my peers and I knew I was not alone. I had many family and friends who experienced the same marginalization. We promised ourselves that we wouldn’t let the burden of these prejudices distract us from reaching our goals. Today, whether in academic or professional settings, I speak out on instances of discrimination and injustice. It is because I have embraced my identity that I use such instances as a moment to teach, spread mindfulness, and engage in my community to stifle the divisions we've sought to end for centuriesThis is why I believe knowledge is power. We are working together to bring all students up to speed in a educational system that does not work to do that on its own. Despite this being the case, I know that we can work together to garner your individual potential to not only work closely and successfully amid your peers but to ignite confidence and leadership in academic and professional settings to come!

I am currently a PhD graduate student studying Microbiology at Arizona State University. Prior to moving to Arizona, I completed my B.S. in Biochemistry at Suffolk University in Boston, MA. As an undergraduate, I initiated a study group for students interested in group tutoring in Biochemistry. Additionally, I served as a teaching assistant for biology, advanced biology, and chemistry high school students in the Boston area. Since starting school at ASU, I have worked as a teaching assistant for Microbiology labs for over two years now. I absolutely love teaching and tutoring students in biological sciences! Through my experiences and studies I have developed a passion for working with students. I believe I can help students to understand complex ideas, develop critical thinking skills, and build confidence to move forward with their education and career goals. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, traveling, and kickboxing.

Hello,My name is Mike and I am currently a graduate student at Georgia Tech studying Prosthetics and Orthotics. My career goal is to become a certified prosthetist/orthotist, which means I would make and fit artificial limbs (prostheses) to patients who need them as well as make and fit assistive devices that support existing body parts (orthoses) to treat various conditions. One of the main reasons I am pursuing prosthetics and orthotics is because I love working with people! That is also why I became a tutor. I love helping people achieve things they want to do.One of my main objectives as a tutor is to help students understand the big picture about why whatever they are learning about matters. I have found that if you understand why you are learning something, remembering the details is much easier. Of course, part of my job is to help sort out those gritty details, and that is fun too.I have some previous experience in tutoring and teaching. As an undergraduate student, I was a tutor for the Navy ROTC program at the University of Wisconsin. Later, as a graduate student at Illinois, I spent time as a teaching assistant. In that role I held office hours, which are essentially drop-in tutoring sessions to help students in the class with whatever they needed. I have also done some teaching in a non-academic setting through coaching. I was the head coach of a Jr. High basketball team for 2 seasons and I also helped out with the high school basketball summer camp. Through coaching, I learned a lot about relating to and communicating with younger students and I loved it!In closing, I'd like to say that I've been a student all my life, including being one right now. I understand what it is like to be a student, at every level. I would love to share my knowledge, not only of specific subjects, but about being a student in general. I'm a pretty laid-back guy and I'm all about attacking things with a positive attitude. I would love to be your tutor and help you in any way I can. Thanks for reading!
