I am a Biochemistry and Biophysics major at Amherst College on the Biophysics track. I tutor students in students struggling with reading comprehension through the Reader to Reader program. In high school, I tutored peers struggling with algebra, geometry, and biology. In college, I have taken and done well in a wide range of classes including classes in biology, chemistry, physics, and advanced mathematics. In my spare time, I love reading science fiction, realistic fiction, fantasy, and nonfiction. I tutor SAT math and critical reading, Prealgebra, Algebra I & II, Trigonometry, Calculus AB and Calculus BC, as well as Chemistry, Biology and Physics. In my approach, I ensure that students understand the logical basis behind each concept, by teaching students to understand why a concept or problem solving method works the way it does, not just how to memorize what steps to take to arrive at the answer.

My name is Susie and I am a recent graduate of Swarthmore College with a special major in biochemistry and minor in psychology. I am currently applying to medical school while working at the NIH for a year. During college, I spent a lot of my time tutoring peers and elementary/middle school children in Chester, PA, volunteering at local hospice facilities and at HUP (Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania), and doing research at the Cleveland Clinic. I have also tutored abroad in Korea in standardized test prep like SAT, MCAT, and SAT II. In my free time, I enjoy dancing and cooking, as well as running cross country. I would love to work with you, particularly on areas in science (chemistry, biochemistry), ACT, essays, or the MCAT. Please feel free to email me or reach out if you have any questions!

Hello,As a retired physician with 18 years of clinical and educational experience, I have always found that teaching, tutoring and/or mentoring students was one of my favorite challenges with the most rewards. Providing patient care was certainly rewarding, but after leaving clinical medicine, I decided to continue educating by tutoring both undergraduate and graduate students in subjects relevant to pursuing a career in healthcare. I thoroughly enjoy watching students grow and mature as they learn to work towards their goals.Subjects I tutor include General Biology, AP Biology, College Biology, Cell Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Psychology (all facets), Clinical Psychology and Medical Terminology. But, my real areas of expertise include Neuroscience, Pathophysiology, Psychopathology, Pharmacology and Psychopharmacology. Other topics of personal interest include medical ethics, the sociological impact of trauma and, the impact of the internet and social media on "post-COVID-19" educational platforms. After receiving my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and my M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin, I went on to do my post-graduate training in Psychiatry in the U.S. Air Force serving military personnel and their families at Wilford Hall Medical Center in Texas. I then went on to complete a fellowship in HIV/AIDS psychiatry in New York City. While working in various clinical and educational settings around the country, I have had many opportunities to observe, understand and embrace people from various cultural backgrounds. It still amazes me when students come from abroad, knowing minimal English, yet strive so hard to achieve their goals while also having to learn the "language" of the medical field. And so my teaching philosophy is simple: ANYONE can learn ANYTHING if they have the tools, the determination and willingness to do so. Socioeconomic barriers should NEVER dissuade a student from receiving a quality education.Because every person is unique, I tailor my tutoring based on the individual needs and goals of my students. Therefore, I like to know a bit about a student's life, both in and outside the classroom. It is essential for creating a unique learning plan. I teach students "how" to think, rather than just "what" to think. This, I believe, is the cornerstone of effective problem solving and innovation. Asking Google or Alexa for an answer is not permitted with my students UNLESS the student has a solid grasp of the subject matter at hand. One of my favorite teaching techniques is explaining a complicated topic using everyday life examples or anecdotes from my experiences.I strongly encourage all my students to be curious, ask questions and then challenge them with questions as well. Ask me anything and I'll know the answer about 75% of the time; the rest we find out together. I learn from my students as much as I hope they learn from me. Learning how to take whatever data or information is given and then thinking about HOW to use it to solve a problem or arrive at the answer is one of the key elements to being successful inside and outside the classroom as well as in life.Outside of my tutoring commitments, I enjoy the solitude of a walk by the lake, reading a fascinating murder/horror mystery, watching vintage films, hanging out with good friends having "cell-phone-free" conversation and spending time with my ever so energetic cat, Taki.Hopefully if you are reading this you are interested in one or more of the topics I tutor. I can only guarantee that you and I working together as a team will get you over any subject matter hurdles you might have. Passing, failing, getting the A or satisfying a requirement is ultimately your responsibility. I am only here to guide you with ways I know work for you to succeed.

I am a graduate of the University of Kentucky and received my Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education-Science. Following college, I completed my medical degree at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed pediatrics residency training at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. I tutored large groups while in medical school in pathology, biochemistry, histology, microbiology, and pharmacology. I have also spent time in small groups and one on one tutoring sessions for a variety of subjects in science. I am available to tutor biology, chemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and anatomy and physiology. My favorite subjects to tutor are biology and microbiology because of the understanding required at a cellular level. I believe all students have the ability to excel and reach their individual goals in any subject and my philosophy lies in creating a context for understanding for the student. Science is fun and changing the framework in how a student looks at science can make all the difference.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a focus on pre-medicine and minors in chemistry and psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have also recently received my Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Eastern Mennonite University in 2021. During my Masters program, I worked as a graduate TA for human physiology and worked closely with my students to ensure that they had the necessary support and materials to learn the subject matter. I am extremely passionate about learning and experiencing as many new things as possible in life. I am available to tutor a wide variety of subjects but am most passionate about science subjects and organizational/study skills. In my experience the most important part of tutoring is finding a strategy that works best for each individual. I am a firm believer that after taking the time to find a plan that works best, every student can be successful and find a love for learning. Outside of education, I am an advocate of mental and physical health which has helped developed my passions for hiking, working out, yoga, and reading.

I believe that understanding core basics of any subject is extremely important in understanding the subject. Therefore, while tutoring I like to keep things simple by explaining my students the concept behind any question and how to tackle it. Hence, providing them with the mindset in answering future questions all by themselves. Even though I tutor people, I honestly believe that everyone is learning from each other. Knowing that students whom I teach can go ahead in their lives with confidence to answer questions that they once struggled with makes me extremely proud of them. That is what motivates me to tutor more and more students and see them succeed with their lives and careers.
