I am a current applicant in the 2013-2014 cycle for medical school candidacy. My personal goals are to go to medical school and complete my medical education to become a successful physician in the state of Georgia. I am very driven to succeed and have worked hard to achieve success thus far.I have a track record of success with the students I have worked with, and their improvements range from time management to higher scores on examinations. My tutoring methods include patience and understanding of why students are struggling and how to overcome those issues together. The moment a student comes to me and says they have improved their grades or study habits due to my help is my greatest measure of success.

Helping people through education is what I am most passionate about. I have a particular interest in science education, receiving my Bachelors degree in Biology and my Masters of Arts in Teaching in Science Education, both from the University of South Florida. Over the past five years, I have tutored students in various settings, from the college level down to freshman in high school. I have also taught high school biology for the past two years. My variety of teaching and tutoring experiences, along with my background knowledge, helps me to effectively connect with young people to help them learn and succeed. I tutor the following subjects: biology, anatomy, physiology, ecology, environmental science, life sciences, and AP biology.

I tutor chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and Spanish. I recently graduated from Bucknell University with my degrees in both biology and Spanish. I was hired by the university to tutor organic chemistry, which I did for two years. I also worked as a teacher's assistant (TA) for a general chemistry class. I tutored biology and Spanish at the university on the side for my entire stay. I am very personable and easy to talk to. I am also very patient and believe that everyone has the capability to conquer any course, and I am very excited to make that happen for all of my clients.

I graduated from Emory University in 2014 with a BS degree in Neuroscience. Since then, I have started medical school at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. Given my strong science background, I feel most comfortable tutoring the life sciences, but I am also interested in tutoring Math, French, and Reading/Writing, including editing papers for content as well as grammar and syntax. I try to take a personable approach to tutoring, helping others relate the material to their own interests in order to help bridge the gap between one's own knowledge and a seemingly confusing realm of material. Together, we can work towards fostering an interest in lifelong learning, while keeping the material fun and engaging along the way. Apart from my studies, I'm passionate about dance, having dabbled in various forms of South Asian dance including Bollywood, garba/raas, bhangra, and classical, and I also like to cook and travel to new places.

I am an experienced teacher with over fifteen years experience, as well as a certified Veterinary Technician. I have taught in the traditional classroom setting and hands on science based science programs where I take students out in the field. I am a graduate of Wayne State University and have my Masters of Art from Columbia University Teachers College where I studied Anatomy and Physiology. I am continuing my education in Medical Laboratory Technology with the desire to teach it. I am passionate about science, especially Biology, and love to instill that passion in my students. I instill a variety of modalities when I teach and assess which one works best for a particular student. I believe all students can learn as long as their learning style is addressed. I love to travel, but not in the traditional ways; I white water rafted through Costa Rica, explored the rainforest on foot, hiked through Dominican Republic, and tracked wolves one summer in Yellowstone National Park. In my spare time I kayak, run and read a lot of science literature. I also enjoy being a backyard biologist exploring the plant and animal life that my surroundings have to offer.

I recently moved to the DC area as a graduate student in Microbiology. During college, I had the chance to work with a number of students, teaching and supporting them as they worked hard toward their goals. Science can be challenging and frustrating, but together I have helped many students have a "light bulb" moment. It's satisfying for me to see, but far more satisfying for them to experience! I have enjoyed working with students from very diverse backgrounds and starting at very different levels. Some students needed intense work to get caught up with classmates, while some were just looking to brush up their level of mastery before a big test. With work and focus, we can set goals and achieve them regardless of where we are starting.Because of how different each student is, it's important to really consider what works best for you as a learner. For this, being simple and upfront is probably best. Are you a visual learner? Auditory? Let's start with that and consider what works from there. Knowing how you learn, while also being open to new approaches, can make science great fun to learn! One of the great things about science, in fact, is that there are a hundred different resources that will teach you the same material a hundred different ways. Knowing what works best for you, and why, will make mastering material painless and even fun.Outside of science, I enjoy running, traveling, and volunteering. I have had a chance to hike the Annapurna Mountains of Nepal, and have reached the summit of Mt. Elbert, the highest peak in the Rocky Mountains. While there, I completed a course in mountain medicine. I've also bungy jumped on three continents and have plans to do the remaining three (does Antarctica even count?!) in the next few years.Perhaps most of all, I enjoy getting to know new and interesting people. If we can work together to help get closer to your goals, even better. I look forward to meeting you, and doing both!

Although my Bachelor's Degree is in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and I plan to become a physical therapist, I am passionate about giving back in one of the most important ways that I know: through education. And it is my goal (and hope) to make learning fun! I grew up with School House Rock and many other learning videos that I can still recite, because, for me, it was fun. In the past, I have helped students come up with cheers, chants, rhymes, and even dances to help remember a concept. While in Pittsburgh, I volunteered at the Shadyside Boys & Girls Club for three years, where I had the opportunity to help mentor and tutor elementary- and middle-school aged children. I've helped students tackle subjects ranging from reading comprehension and vocabulary to Algebra and many others in between. I have also helped high school and college students with essay writing and editing, including proofreading for grammar and spelling, syntax, paragraph structure, and maintaining tense, point-of-view, and voice. My tutoring style is very interactive and cooperative, where I allow the student to walk me through their thinking process as I share with them tricks, tips, and mnemonics. I often refer to the quote of "teaching a person how to fish" rather than just giving them the fish.I am very flexible as far as scheduling and availability, I am reliable and punctual, and I am resourceful. In my free time, I love to stay active through soccer, running, and dance. I also really enjoy music whether it's live concerts or performances, videos, or the radio. Since moving back to Atlanta, I am also really interested in exploring all the city has to offer.

I grew up in Sacramento and attended elementary, middle, and high school in the area. I am familiar with many of the schools in the area and would love to help local students succeed in their classes. I worked with students from under-resourced schools in the past, through a program called Breakthrough Sacramento, teaching Cell Biology to 7th graders. I have experience working with students individually as a Tutor. I have tutored students in grades 3-12 and lead study groups with my college peers at U.C. Berkeley and U.C. Davis.I did not have the opportunity to have a tutor myself, which made me realize how great an advantage it is to have that kind of support and resource. I am dedicated to helping students succeed in their courses as well as gain an understanding of the concepts and material. It is not enough to simply do well. I want students to first have a desire to learn. I want them to understand the material enough to be able to do well on their own, and to help teach it to others. It is only then when they can accurately and confidently teach the material to someone else that they have truly acquired knowledge and a thorough understanding.Working with students on a one-on-one basis allows me to explore different teaching and learning methods. I myself am an auditory and visual learner; however, I realize that there are many kinds of learners. Therefore, I plan to adjust methods in order to cater to the needs of the student.I am currently applying for medical school. I am a caring person and it is my hope that I will be able to learn and grow together with my clients.

Over the last 7 years, I have been tutoring Anatomy & Physiology as well as Biology for Varsity Tutors. In addition to tutoring, I have also taught Motor Learning & Behaviour at Trinity University and Anatomy and Physiology at Chamberlain University as a visiting Professor pre-pandemic. My educational background includes a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.S. in Physiology from Wright State University, and an extensive career in the fitness/yoga industry for 20 plus years, Teaching and tutoring Anatomy & Physiology as well as Biology has been a blessing to have an impact on students to pursue their educational and career goals. I also have experience working with students with ADHD and Asperger's. Varsity Tutors is THE best at providing professional tutoring for reaching student goals and dreams. 2020 has obviously changed the dynamics of students to prepare, assimilate, and retain information. Not only to meet weekly online assignments but also to prepare for upcoming exams and quizzes. My tutoring philosophy, "Begins with the end in mind" entails imagining how you will feel after completing your final exam and walking out of the room with so much knowledge and the grade you always wanted. The confidence gained from having a strong grasp of Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology will always carry over to a multitude of career paths. I hope you cross the Varsity Tutors' path!!

I graduated Cum Laude from the University at Buffalo with a BS in Neuroscience and a BA in Psychology. I earned Dean's list during my last two semesters of undergraduate education, which were my heaviest course loads. I am currently a TA for Forensic Osteology and Comparative Primate Anatomy (which I've helped teach for two years) at UB, and I have done private tutoring for Physiology courses. Most importantly, I enjoy helping people figure out strategies that work for them, and want others to love learning as much as I do.I scored in the 85th percentile on the MCAT, and my strong suits are Biology and Psychology/Sociology. I have written for The Spectrum (the student newspaper at UB) and took English literature courses there; I enjoy writing and can help with English or writing subjects as well. I earned my degrees in Neurobiology and Psychology and would love to help you learn both. Some of my favorite classes were Microbiology, Clinical Neurobiology, and Comparative Primate Anatomy. I am currently doing research in Immunological Oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, work as a pharmacy technician, and work in the emergency department at a Level 1 trauma center as an emergency technician and research assistant (which I have been doing for nearly four years).I understand how it feels to be working hard and not seeing results when you take a test or hand in a lab report. My academic success came only after having struggled to figure out the study habits and techniques that work best for me. I encourage students to work hard, but to be relaxed about their learning so that they can walk away actually knowing and understanding valuable information, rather than just memorizing a bunch of facts. I have a flexible schedule and would love to help you learn some cool science.
