In terms of professional experience, I began tutoring in high school, and continued volunteering to work with students throughout my college years. Leaving Grand Valley State University, I earned two Bachelor's degrees in Spanish and in Sociology.Following college, I joined the program Teach for America and moved to Houston, TX. My first teaching placement was for an ESL 5th grade classroom where I taught all subjects to transitional bilingual students. After that experience, I began working in the charter school network teaching 7th grade Algebra for a KIPP middle school. After finishing my two-year commitment to Teach for America, I chose to leave teaching to go to graduate school.After three years in the classroom, I decided to join the Professional Development Design Team for HISD to design resources and trainings for teachers.On a more personal note, I have always been a very active student and leader. I enjoy athletics, particularly soccer, basketball, volleyball, and dance. I also love traveling and foreign languages, a passion fueled by my majors in college.I am very excited to share my experience with you, and I hope to have the chance to meet with you.

I was lucky to have truly exceptional teachers, starting in elementary school and continuing on through my neurosurgical residency. Inspired by them, I have been teaching in one way or another for about 35 years. Whether I was planning an operation with a resident physician, making orbital models with the chemistry students, or working alongside science fair participants (incidentally including my grandchildren!), these inspirational educators were always in my mind. Tutoring is just another form of interactive, mutual learning, which can serve to expand and strengthen the knowledge base we all need to be participatory citizens.

I am an MD/MPH student. I have lived in Baltimore for three years, and I am originally from Australia. I moved to the US to play college tennis and then I stayed in the US for medical school. I am currently doing a Master's degree in public health and my schedule is very flexible.I am able to offer tutoring in a variety of subjects, especially in the areas of mathematics and science. I have tutored students before for SAT prep and have experience with teaching anatomy. My favorite part about being a tutor is helping students gain confidence and become excited about subjects they have struggled with in the past. I enjoy tutoring Mathematics and Science because there is typically more than one approach to understanding concepts. In Mathematics, there are multiple methods to solving problems and relating their applications to the real world. With Science, there are many ways to explain processes, including through the use of analogies and metaphors. However, standardized exam preparation is my favorite subject to tutor because it requires the development of strategies as well as knowledge. It allows students to improve critical thinking skills that will not only be useful for exams, but in their future academic, professional, and personal ventures. As a tutor, my aim is to provide students with the assistance they need in the present and the motivation to continue to succeed in the future.

Upon graduation of High School, I went on to get my Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. I cannot thank the University enough for the opportunities and experiences it gave me. The countless hours spent in cadaver labs, training rooms, clinics, and classrooms have laid such a solid foundation on me. The University also led me to my internship in Columbus, Ohio, at Nationwide Children's Hospital. There, I had the privilege to intern with the sports medicine program. The opportunity to work for such a great program was amazing! After graduation from college, I wanted to further my education as a practitioner. I then decided to move to St. Louis to enroll at Logan College of Chiropractic! I have finished my first year and am loving every minute of it! I cannot wait to take the knowledge I have gained and teach it to others! I am very strong in Anatomy and Physiology! I probably have had over 15 classes of A and P throughout my college career, and every class I learn something new! I have so many drawings, charts, as well as fun ways to remember those important concepts! I am also very strong in other medical areas such as nutrition, pathology, and basic sciences. I am looking forward to helping out others because I know exactly what it was like when I was in their shoes!
