Hello! Thanks for reading. I have been tutoring youth aged 10 18 for over a decade, with experiences spanning New York, Memphis, Santa Fe and Baltimore. I received my BA in Urban Studies from New York University in 2009 and obtained my Master's of Science in Public Health Nutrition from Johns Hopkins University in 2013. I am also a Registered & Licensed Nutritionist currently based in Memphis, TN.My joy in tutoring comes from helping children and young adults evolve as learners. There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing a young person's aha moment and I strive to reach that moment with patience, humor, and creativity. Every person learns and engages differently, and it is crucial that a tutor be aware of, attuned to and prepared for those differences. I believe that tutoring is about growing minds and forging connections and I believe my long history of successful tutoring partnerships attests to that fact. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing poetry, taking online Coursera classes (they're a great resource!), hiking, practicing yoga, and exploring new places.

I graduated with a BA in Liberal Arts in 2013 from St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland. I have a very well balanced educational background and a passion for learning that I think could greatly benefit others. I have been a tutor for high school students and a teacher's aide for elementary school students so I am also well prepared for a teaching role.I am knowledgeable and ready to tutor in Geometry, Anatomy, Philosophy, and Psychology, but am very capable of tutoring in many other areas. My favorite subject to tutor in would have to be Anatomy/Physiology because I find the human body to be a fascinating machine. When I'm not pursuing more academic interests, I am either at my job as a pharmacy technician or out seeing live music/Pittsburgh sports.

I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with students of all ages and backgrounds as a tutor. I have various tutoring experiences from tutoring college level athletes in Chemistry and Kinesiology, to teaching and tutoring Medical Terminology to high school students. My true passion for education and working with students one-on-one developed when I was serving as an Education Volunteer in the Peace Corps and had the opportunity to teach and tutor math, French and health sciences to elementary, middle and high school students. To be able to follow my students for the 2 years of my service and to see their growth and improvement was incredibly rewarding. I myself am a student again, working towards my doctorate in Physical Therapy at Boston University. But I miss the connections I had to my students in Burkina Faso and I am excited about the opportunity to work with students locally to help each student achieve his or her full potential. With my graduate level coursework in Physical Therapy and my years of experience teaching an tutoring math and French at various levels, I am excited to work with diverse students in varying subjects and grade levels.

Tutoring can be a lot of fun for both students and teachers. I enjoy challenging my students, and it is a thrill to see their insights as they solve problems and learn new things.I began teaching swimming lessons when I was 17 years old, and after several years became the manager of the swimming lessons program in Fort Worth, TX. This led me to develop a long-term interest in how people learn, and how learning systems can be efficiently designed to help them succeed at every step along the way.Since then I have gained experience in tutoring a large variety of subjects, including programing, physics, calculus, the SAT, the MCAT, etc.I am good at explaining and breaking things down in multiple ways -- words, diagrams, analogies -- to make concepts clear. There are very few things I cannot explain or articulate.Currently my favorite subjects to tutor include computer programming, mathematics, statistics, and physics.

I am a third-year medical student from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. I currently live in the greater NYC area while I complete my clinical rotations. I am originally from Pawling, NY. I moved to Naples, FL during high school and graduated from Barron Collier High School in 2005. From there, I obtained a bachelors degree in Health Science from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. While pursuing my bachelor's degree, I worked as a part-time tutor for my student-athlete classmates, teaching a range of topics including Biology, Chemistry, and Calculus. Additionally, for my senior thesis project, I developed and taught a comprehensive sexual education class for local high school students and college freshman. During my first year at University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, I volunteered as a mentor to a local middle school student, helping him with his classwork as needed.I found both teaching opportunities to be extremely fulfilling. It is very rewarding to see the individual growth of people as they learn the process necessary to be a successful student. I look forward to sharing my study skill knowledge with other aspiring students.

Every person is teachable. There is no exception. Everyone has only a different method of learning. Some learn through connections while others just find it better to memorize. My interest in tutoring began as I have met various people from all over the world with limited English skills. As English was my second language as well, I gained different approaches to international students who were learning the language. Because some languages are very different from English, I would start learning about their language and see what approach would be best to guide them when it came to their time of building sentences. This same approach could be used in Science and many other disciplines. Therefore, I decided to use my experience and skills and use them on the subjects I am most comfortable with. With a Bachelors degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, I feel confident in teaching subjects in the Biology undergraduate curriculum (including Anatomy, Physiology, and Genetics), as well as Chemistry subjects. Organic Chemistry and Biochemisty are my top favorite due to the different methods of learning these seemingly complicated subjects.

I graduated from Suncoast High School in Riviera Beach, FL, with an IB Diploma. I completed a dual-degree program at the University of Florida in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation as well as Zoology, with a minor in Chemistry. In college, I worked for a radioactive chemistry lab, working with isotopes in analyzing chemical levels in crop plants as well as research in fire ecology and native bird survivability. Briefly after college I worked for a state crime lab analyzing samples from performance animals, looking for illicit drugs using thin-layer chromatography. I left Florida to start a Masters Degree program at the University of Georgia, working with molecular biology techniques to attempt to identify the gene of interest in a cerebellar abiotrophy in pure-bred dogs. While I did that, I completed training as an Emergency Medical Technician and took coursework in Wilderness Search and Rescue at the University of West Georgia. I started a dual degree in veterinary medicine and graduate school, earning a DVM/PhD. My doctoral work was with viral diseases in white-tailed deer. I have spent the last two years in a residency program with the veterinary medical teaching hospital at UC-Davis, and I am now completing my final year of training here in San Diego studying conservation medicine.I have tutored students at all levels, from middle school to graduate school, and I have formally lectured undergraduates, graduate students, veterinary students, and technical college students. I love learning and am an enthusiastic teacher. My teaching philosophy, in a nutshell, centers on involving the student learner. How do they think? What interests them? Engaging students and working to avoid frustrating them is vital to effective teaching. It can be very challenging in a classroom setting, but in tutoring, it is usually a thoroughly adaptable method and enjoyable all around!

I'm a PhD in the molecular sciences. Although I've done a lot of schoolwork, I appreciate the difficulty some students have with difficult subjects (mine was Calculus), and trying to concentrate when studying is the last thing I want to think about. My goal is to help you plan out your studies so that you can maximize your potential with the minimum amount of work. Sometimes it's hard for some teachers to break down a complex topic for burgeoning learners because they themselves approach it from a higher level and can't think at a low enough level. After a year of science outreach in high-need Nashville public schools, I've found that I have a knack for breaking down complex concepts to an easy-to-digest format that incorporates math and literature comprehension into real scientific problems.Fortunately, the more I learned about a subject matter, the easier it has been to find meaning and see how it fits into a bigger picture.I want to help you understand things in a big-picture way with real-life examples (usually in the hard sciences). This hopefully will help you with comprehension and memorization.
