Hello! I am a former Physics and AP Physics 1 teacher. My background is in geophysics, which means that I am strong in earth science, physics, algebra, differential calculus, and integral calculus.I am currently in a Ph.D. program at Oregon State University where I write algorithms for data analysis in MatLab and Python. Before teaching, I worked as an electromagnetic geophysics researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratories and I worked with NASA on an undergraduate engineering team. When I was an undergraduate at UTD, I was associated with the Student Success Center as a differential and integral calculus Peer Lead Team Leader. As a PLTL Leader, I would lead groups of eight or fewer students through review sessions about the calculus their classes were covering that week. I have over six years of tutoring experience and three of professional teaching. I am here to help you build your confidence while we find solutions! Before university, I was very unsure about my abilities in math. With time and practice, I learned that math and science were really fun! I hope that I can share my enthusiasm for math and science with my clients and help them to build their confidence in difficult subjects. In my free time, I like to go on walks with my dog, read graphic novels, paint with watercolors, and explore Dallas.I have 5 years of experience as a math tutor. I was a differential and integral calculus tutor at the University of Texas at Dallas. My strongest subject at university was math. I love STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) because it allows people to think through real-world problems like a puzzle. Solving problems can be a lot of fun. I excelled in my physics courses at university and I studied geophysics at Los Alamos National Labs for a summer before becoming a physics teacher.

I am a certified English teacher for grades 7-12 and have a master's in teaching English from Brooklyn College. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in English, music, and University Honors Program from Portland State University. Prior to graduating from Portland State, I studied piano performance at University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. For the last two years, I taught middle and high school English in NYC public schools. Now I freelance as a tutor, book editor, and musician; I love the increased opportunities to work with people individually! In addition to working as a classroom English teacher, I have worked with music students of all ages in classrooms, in ensembles, and individually. My favorite part about teaching and tutoring is helping students get excited about a new idea or creative process. In my tutoring sessions, I will focus on both big ideas (developing and structuring arguments, analyzing themes, building connections, etc.) and the nitty gritty details (conventions, grammar, sentence structure, style, voice, etc.) of reading and writing, whether it be for an essay prompt on an assigned novel or for SAT prep. By the end of a session, you'll be better equipped with skills that will help you not just with your current assignment but also with any reading or writing assignment in the future. In my spare time, when I'm not reading all the books I can get my hands on, I enjoy playing piano and singing.

Hello! My name is Mark. I grew up in Pennsylvania and was a Biology major at the University of Pittsburgh where I graduated Summa cum Laude. In college, I tutored peers, was involved with a mentoring program in the sciences, and was a teaching assistant in Biology. Since graduating I've taught Chemistry and Biology labs, classical piano, and adult GED and ESL courses. In the past three years I have done test prep for the ACT and the GRE extensively, and know both tests inside and out.I'm easy going, mesh well with most anyone, and have been told I have a knack for making myself understood. I've had the chance to work with kids as young as five learning piano to adults late in life who just want to finish their high school education or learn English. I love the diversity and challenge that comes with working with a variety of human beings. I'm always looking to learn something new and I love nothing more than to pass my knowledge on to others.

Upon entering college, I tested into a basic math but was eventually able to obtain a graduate degree in a math intensive subject. The road from basic algebra to advanced mathematics was arduous but it was all made possible over a decade ago with the help of a tutor. It was through tutoring that I discovered my greatest barrier to learning mathematics: a lack of belief in myself. The myth that I did not possess a deep inborn talent required to perform math or science kept me from reaching my potential. Once I let that go, I discovered that even a belated and neglected learner, like I once was, could succeed in math. Math is a craft learned through doggedness and attention. Belief in ones own abilities can only be recognized through exposure and experience. This is what a tutor provides.I developed a large repertoire of math skills and memory tricks while being tutored and eventually decided to pass them along as a tutor myself. I continued to use practical equations, colorful anecdotes, and methods of engaging exploration to assist students as a peer tutor until I completed my masters degree in 2006. I was then promoted to the full time Coordinator of Math and Science tutoring at my previous University, where I excelled in my duties to create and present science and math workshops, and to hire and train a team of successful math and science tutors.I believe in successful tutoring because I am a success story.

I'm a drummer who has a passion for tutoring music and math. I received my Masters in Music from NYU and a BA in Music from the University of Miami along with a Minor in Mathematics. I enjoy working with students because I have incredibly fond memories of those educators who inspired my when I was younger and I want to create those same bonds with the younger generations. I have worked with students K-12 both in the classroom and privately. I tutor all levels of math including algebra geometry, trigonometry, as well as general music, music theory, and drums/percussion. I love teaching math because I love puzzles, and I consider math to have some of the most interesting puzzles waiting to be solved! My approach is that there is always more than one way to arrive at the answer to a problem, I'm simply here to find what solution works best for each of my students. Perhaps right now you're not the biggest fan of math or music, but I'm here to change that!
