I am currently a graduate student at Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester conducting research in Biophysical Chemistry. I recently graduated in June 2017 from the University of California - Irvine with two Bachelor degrees. One was in Biomedical Engineering and the other was in Materials Science and Engineering. With two engineering degrees, I feel comfortable working with students in all realms of Math and Science.

I am a graduate of Boston Latin School and MIT. I have loved math and science since I was a child, and I loved my time at MIT, earning a BS in Materials Science, a PhD in Materials Science, and doing post doctoral work there. After leaving that academic world, I was drawn to software engineering and started my own software consulting business, which I have run for many years. I found that tutoring my sons and daughters and other young people in math has been very rewarding and that my enthusiasm for math and science can be infectious. My approach to instruction is to determine quickly what issues prevent the student from understanding the material and to work in a supportive and guided manner to help the student achieve success. Nothing makes me happier than helping a student to gain confidence by mastering a topic they were having trouble with. I love music, mostly jazz and rock, a love I got from my parents. I read science fiction, and do Tai Chi, and am working towards becoming an instructor, which is another form of tutoring as I see it. I am an Eagle Scout, and for many years, I have mentored young men who are working on attaining that rank. I volunteer to help the seniors in my home town with electronic device problems in their homes. I believe that a good education is the foundation for success in life. I like to think I've motivated and encouraged many young minds to achieve success.

I am a rising sophomore at Cornell University. I am studying Statistics and Economics, with possible minors in information science and computer science. I have been working with students for several years now and have provided academic support to my peers throughout my time as a high school and now college student. Through my religious school, I taught students of all ages, ranging from Pre-K through 8th Grade. In high school, I helped prepare students for AP, SAT, ACT, and SAT subject tests as part of my role in the National Honor Society. I have considerable personal experience with a vast array of subjects and love sharing my knowledge and experience with others. From calculus to creative writing, I have a genuine passion for all academic pursuits and helping others feel the same way.

I am firmly of the belief that learning a technical subject like chemistry, physics, or math is much like learning a foreign language: listening and reading is much easier than speaking and writing. It is all too easy to fall into the trap of believing that if you come to class and understand what the instructor is saying, you don't need to practice the material. Accordingly, I emphasize the need to practice "speaking" the language on a regular basis and to receive immediate feedback on one's learning. In my free time I enjoy woodworking and playing with Legos with my small children.

I'm a born and raised Austinite and recently earned my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University in May 2015. I mostly tutor high school/college math and science courses, as well as SAT/ACT and MCAT prep. My favorite classes to help students with are biology, physics, biochemistry and statistics! I took 14 AP classes in high school, and retook many of the math and sciences class in college. I think this helps with tutoring because I learned the material multiple times and from many great teachers, so if a student doesn't understand a concept at first, I can hopefully explain it in another way that I've learned.

I am a recent Master's Grad in Chemistry from Princeton University. My main teaching experience comes from lots of tutoring in high-school and working as a TA at Princeton this past year (my kids even won me a teaching award for their good reviews!). Before that I got my B.A. in Chemistry from Northwestern University. I'm originally from the Jersey Shore area and went to a special math and science high-school for Ocean County students (also I was Math League captain and have been 2x Ocean County Math League champ). My specialties are in Chemistry and standardized test Math prep. I make sure to have a good time with all of my students and like to joke around while making sure we stay on track. I'm not that guy! Like many students, understanding comes with repetition of principles and hard work. I have the perspective of a student trying to understand, not a teacher trying to preach. I love working with people from the ground up; we start at the comfort zone and work our way to improvement. I know I don't know everything, so I'm excited to learn as well!

I am a graduate of Brigham Young University where I majored in International Relations and Russian and of Thunderbird School of Global Management where I earned an MBA in International Business. My college and graduate studies include coursework in Writing, Literature, Geography, History, Political Science, Russian, Music, Business, Math, Science, and Art. Because of my experience with many different disciplines, I am able to teach a wide variety of subjects and have experience working with students of all ages from middle school to middle aged. My greatest skill as a tutor is the ability to adapt challenging material to the viewpoint of my students. This allows me to build bridges of understanding that help more analytical people feel at home in creative disciplines or vice versa. If you are a gifted artist struggling with Math, or an aspiring scientist struggling with creative writing, I'm your man! I am also a very experienced writer and editor. In my free time I enjoy hiking, literature, ultimate Frisbee, international travel, soccer, baking, music, strategy games, and philosophical discussions.
