I am a graduate of Rice University (B.A. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, History) and Emory University (MPH). Through my undergraduate and graduate studies, I have tutored students in various subjects in one-on-one and group tutoring sessions. I am fluent in Spanish and English and enjoy teaching and tutoring students in Spanish, History, English, Algebra I and II, Calculus, Biology and Chemistry. I have personal experience and tutor for the following standardized exams: AP, IB, SAT, ACT and GRE.I believe that with some encouragement, the right guidance, and motivation, students can unlock their full academic potential and excel in subjects they previously have struggled in. I work with students to understand the underlying reasons of why some concepts are harder than others and teach to the style (visual, aural, verbal, physical) that best suits the student. I also work with the student (and parents) to develop plans to reach the student's overall academic goals. I believe that learning is not so much about the destination and the end result, but how the journey the student takes. I want my students to not only learn the concepts but get enough confidence in themselves to tackle hard subjects in the future without fear of failure.

My sister would tell you I became a teacher because when we were kids, I loved to boss people around. I would tell you that I became a teacher because I love to be involved in people's lives and to be part of them "getting it."More than, that, though, I have spent 10 years in a classroom because I love watching people "become." I believe I am a teacher of students, not a teacher of English, and I try to remember that education is a means to an end; we educate our kids because we want them to become compassionate, civilized, thoughtful, and, perhaps, revolutionary members of society. My hope with all my students is to guide them to a vision of their futures and to give them the tools necessary to pursue those.I have done one-on-one tutoring with students in different settings as well as being a classroom teacher, and those times have been among some of the most gratifying I have had. I have a great amount of empathy for those students who struggle to understand or to acquire the skills necessary to be successful in a subject area, and the creative problem solving as I try to figure out how to help.I am looking forward to connecting with students.

I am a graduate of University of La Sabana in Colombia, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2020 and ever since I was a student in High School I've had a passion for tutoring classmates. During my college years I traveled through Western and Central Europe and Hong Kong learning about political economy, conflict management and debate skills. I'm a native Spanish and English speaker, and since 2018 I started tutoring K-12 and college students in the areas of English & Spanish (grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing), social studies, history, geography, philosophy, economy, government, standardized tests and writing in both English and Spanish. I love helping others achieve their academic goals by making tutoring sessions an enjoyable experience, making students feel comfortable enough to ask questions and learn in their own rhythm.

I am currently a student at Brigham Young University studying Applied Physics. After finishing my degree I am planning on pursuing a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. Since January 2014 I have worked in the physics help lab at BYU. Throughout this time I have greatly enjoyed helping many students increase their understanding of physics. I love seeing my students have a "light-bulb" moment where suddenly everything we discussed makes sense to them. I think it is extremely important for everyone to have (at least) a basic understanding of math and science as this helps us to better understand our world. I am greatly motivated to teach in a way that my students understand the fundamental principles and not in a way that they can merely get the right answer. I love trying to pass on my enthusiasm for math and science to my students, and I am always looking for ways to show how cool and fun mastering these subjects can be. Although I am most passionate about physics, I also tutor math and Spanish. When I'm not studying or teaching I enjoy swimming, reading (especially Michael Crichton and Orson Scott Card), and exchanging movie quotes with my roommates.

I am a sophomore at Loyola University Chicago majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology. I am on the pre-med track, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree. I love working with children, especially tutoring them as they have creative minds and I think it is an honor to be able to help them develop into the best forms of themselves through learning. I have volunteered for multiple summers being a teaching assistant for Spirit Camp at Holy Family Parish, mainly working with children ages 2-10. I have also tutored elementary reading and math to children in my neighborhood.I can tutor in a broad range of subject matter, but I especially love tutoring elementary/middle school math, elementary/middle school reading and writing, high school English (grammar/syntax, reading, essay writing/editing, paper writing, etc.), and any area of science covered through middle school. Also, I have gone through the college process, and I would love to advise anyone who needs help with college essays or personal statements.Education is necessary for a good quality of life, and my goal as a tutor is to help my students understand the materials necessary to make them functional and happy to indulge in learning. I approach teaching in an inquisitive style, asking questions of students and breaking larger problems down into smaller sections. It is important that students answer for themselves rather than someone else doing their work for them, and I am here to help guide them through their schooling and answer any questions they may have.Outside of tutoring and studying, I enjoy photography, learning how to cook, and occasionally playing Minecraft with my younger sister.

When I'm not studying I like singing and theatre, reading, playing the piano, climbing trees and doing anything outdoors. I have been tutoring Spanish at CMU for a year now, and am also well versed in History, Geography, and Math. I look forward to working with.
