Math Tutoring review by Lauren in Bloomingdale, IL
The student and I went through her practice test today and focused on vectors in particular, which was the most difficult part for her. She seemed confident once we were finished. We also started some of the review work and I gave her an assignment for next week. She's to turn them in to me at the next session. All in all, she did a great job!

Math Tutoring review by William in Bloomingdale, IL
Today, the student and I worked on finding volumes of solids rotated about the x and y axes. We discussed the shell and the washer methods. After several times practicing using the shell method, I think the student has got a good handle on it. However, the washer method is a bit more complex and we didn't get to that until towards the end of our session. So before ending our session, I set up a similar problem and tried to summarize the steps for him. I'm hoping that in continuing to practice, he will feel more comfortable with it. If he still has questions or confusion, we will revisit it next week.

Math Tutoring review by Maddy Grace in Bloomingdale, IL
The student is improving in his class a lot! Today we went over a bunch of different problems and situations related to interest formulas. We did simple, compound, and continuous compound interest, as well as other related formulas like savings plans. We went through a bunch of problems, both assigned as homework and unassigned, that used different variations of these in word problems. At first he was having a lot of trouble, but eventually he had a very good grasp. We then did some stuff related to reading stock market or mutual fund information, which was pretty easy once he knew what all the terms meant. His arithmetic still needs work, as well as his ability to parse through word problems and figure out how to represent them mathematically. Furthermore, for simpler problems that don't map to formulas, he gets mixed up with the relations between terms, particularly knowing whether he should multiply or divide two numbers in order to get the result he wants. But that's just a skill that needs practice.
