I graduated with the IB Diploma and wrote my EE on World Studies: Psychology and World History! In high school, I was heavily involved in DECA ( as a national titleholder), FCCLA (regional board), and now serve as secondary chair of Delta Sigma Pi (professional business fraternity) and Kappa Kappa Gamma. I grew up in Los Angeles and moved to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt University, where I am currently a sophomore pursuing a bachelor of arts degree in Medicine, Health, and Society. Being a student, Ive understood the frustration of not knowing what to do or who to turn to in the moment I dont understand something. This feeling can be very disheartening, but having the right person to guide you can make all the difference. For struggling students, I want to be that person to help them reach their full potential. In high school, I tutored people (mostly high school students like myself at the time) within the community, and it was personally rewarding every time I saw a student gain confidence in their studies.I believe that learning should be enjoyable, comfortable, and productive for everyone. Because every person learns differently, it is important to decide what learning style suits each student best and to establish an environment where the student is comfortable to actively engage and ask for any help they need. I began pursuing my D.V.M. degree at the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine after graduating from Eastern Michigan University in 2012 with a degree in Biology. Following my first year of vet school I decided to take some time off to study advanced Mandarin Chinese at Tsinghua University in Beijing with other Mandarin speaking students from around the world. I currently work as a professional Medical Mandarin Chinese interpreter while continuing my second year of veterinary studies at Cornell. My teaching experience is diverse, ranging from leading English classes in Beijing China to running a Medical Mandarin Chinese course for vet students at Cornell University. I have also worked with students taking high school and college level biology and Chinese courses.My favorite subject to tutor is Mandarin Chinese, because I know exactly how to help new or experienced learners advance their skills rapidly and efficiently and I really enjoy seeing students make breakthroughs on the way to fluency in Chinese. Between the four tones of spoken Mandarin and the 4,000 plus characters there are plenty of obstacles to overcome when learning Mandarin Chinese. I enjoy using innovative methods to provide tips and reveal patterns in Chinese language that help students make the learning process not only more intuitive but also enjoyable. As a tutor I consider each students learning style and needs unique and work specifically to come up with goals that address areas of interest and to tackle particularly challenging issues within each subject.

I have taught mathematics and computer science at Colorado State University and Emory University. The courses I have taught include pre-calculus, calculus 1-3, business calculus, AP calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, discrete mathematics, Java programming, algorithms and data structures, college algebra, etc. I have been an AP reader of Computer Science A for a few years. Besides teaching, I am also enjoy tutoring at my free time. While most students learn by reading examples and solving problems, I, as experienced teacher and tutor, guide students learning by nurturing their interest, helping them understand the WHY in addition to HOW.

My area of study is language acquisition and language learning process. As a native speaker of Chinese, my previous teaching experience includes working with bilingual Chinese American children in a Chinese language school and teaching English to the students in Chinese middle school, I am currently an instructor of the linguistic class at UGA. My past experience enabled me to gain excellent teaching skills as well as the ability to work with learners from different language backgrounds and age groups. I believe that language learning is not merely absorbing the linguistics of the language, but also the culture attached to it. I am passionate about Chinese language tutoring and willing to help students prepare for Standardized Tests. By integrating cultural aspects into my teaching, I expect my students to not only develop solid language skills, but also to be able to think in that language, which serves as the soul of that country and people who speak it. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, cycling and yoga.
