ISEE Tutoring review by Dina in West Jordan, UT
Today, we reviewed the questions the student had problems with from my last assignment. Then, we did a review of logarithms and dealing with imaginary numbers. Finally, we began work on a standardized test to practice working under time constraints. The student showed great progress!

ISEE Tutoring review by Joyce in West Jordan, UT
Today, we went over the student's homework on subtraction with zeros and long division. She got the subtraction questions correct, but could not remember the steps in long division. We went over the steps again, and she will try again on some homework problems. Next, I introduced her to the study plan I created for her to prepare for her GED tests after our sessions end this week. She was excited about the structure of the plan and its content. We practiced more topics from the Math practice section of our GED practice book--positive and negative numbers (meaning and operations) and rounding off numbers. Her attitude is great, though she is sad that our sessions are coming to an end. I am, too! Hopefully, her dad will be able to set up more sessions in the near future.

ISEE Tutoring review by Kristin in West Jordan, UT
Today, we went over the student's practice test for her other SAT course. We tried to pinpoint the causes of her wrong answers, such as "minor mistake," "stuck between two and picked wrong," and "incorrect approach." By knowing her thought process when she answered the question and how she chose the wrong answer, we can have a better idea of what she has to pay attention to and think about in order to avoid making similar mistakes in the future. This is especially important for reading questions, since it is the area she struggles with most. We went through the rest of the test in a similar way. We also reviewed some advanced strategies for math. We discussed how she should aim for a perfect score on all sections since this approach will ensure that she values every question and will aid her in getting a high score. At the end of the session, we practiced a few command of evidence reading questions since she struggles with those most.

ISEE Tutoring review by Andrew in West Jordan, UT
Today, we went over the writing and math sections of the student's practice SAT. I was impressed to see that she was able to correct many of her wrong answers herself when she had more time. Her overall score on this practice exam was 1240, which is very promising for the 1300 we are aiming towards. I think that once we handle the few trouble areas she's having and she gets more comfortable with the timed test-taking experience, she will be able to do very well on the exam!

Today, we went over the Writing section of the SAT. Specifically, we did reading comprehension and grammar practices. The student displayed much more comfort in answering these types of questions compared to Math questions.

ISEE Tutoring review by Kathryn in West Jordan, UT
Today, we went over the writing section of the test and talked about organizational questions. I think the writing section of the test will be quite strong for the student. She has a high mastery of the rules that the SAT tests, and with just a short review of the rhetorical questions, she is near perfect with these passages. We talked about how evidence is tested in the Reading portion of the test. We saw the three types of questions that come up (and they come up a lot) and basic tips. The reading questions are very challenging, and over the next couple weeks, I want us to really hone these skills. The level of reading is also quite challenging, so towards the end of working on what we can expect, I want her to choose an article every week and prepare it (make a concise one sentence summary about the content and evaluate the author's attitude towards his/her subject matter and what he/she assumes about the reader).
