Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Brantley in West Jordan, UT
The student and I did chemical equations and reviewed state of matter and reactions types for today's session. She did well and did not have difficulty with much of anything, except for the double replacement reactions. After some practice of DR ionic reactions, which I advised, she should be prepared for the test.

We went through the student's lab on stoichiometry and percent error. After finishing the reaction and allowing it to dry. We reviewed some old problems and lab reports in preparation for his exam. Due to the format of his online course, we spent a lot of time working with and learning equation editor in Microsoft Word.

We continued the reaction types and balancing the reactions. The student is getting good on the content that we went over. I quizzed him and found out that he was in a hurry to finish the problem and made some mistakes. But, he will get better as we practice more. We also went over Algebra. He is also good at that one too. He just needs more practice on problems like that.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Evan in West Jordan, UT
In our first session of the semester, the student did online physics homework problems related to the following concepts: heat, work, heat reservoirs, heat engines, heat pumps, refrigerators, efficiency, coefficient of performance, Carnot engines (related to efficiency), conservation of energy, and the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics. As per usual, she had a very positive attitude towards the material and was quite capable. After working through the problems, she had a much more solid understanding of how heat engines function and how they relate to the laws of thermodynamics. I am going to review the 2nd law of thermodynamics further to determine a more concise and clear definition to discuss with her for next time. In the next session we will also work problems based on her course lectures later in the week.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Leeanne in West Jordan, UT
In this session, we focused on the concepts of torque and center of mass. The student had a homework assignment due that evening covering the basics of the concepts, which we went through briefly, and we went on to discuss an upcoming assignment her teacher had warned would be one of the most difficult he gave all year. Her teacher had discussed the basic definition of torque, but didn't go into much detail about how a cross product is calculated, and how to use the right hand rule to determine direction. I showed her 2 different types of right hand rules and how to use them not only in torque problems, but whenever she was given a problem involving a cross product. We spent a great deal of time on one problem specifically, which covered determining force from knowing that the over-all torque must be zero.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Deric in West Jordan, UT
The student and I began by touching bases after our long break for the holidays. He's started a new section on rotational motion and, after talking briefly about some of the areas that he identified as being a bit weak on, he tackled some of his homework problems. The main focus on them at the moment is rotational motion with a focus on centripetal forces and acceleration, but there was one about rotational acceleration. He has a test coming up next week and I am looking forward to two more sessions so he can do his best!
