No matter where you are in your GRE review, Varsity Tutors can enroll you in a comprehensive Houston GRE class. The Graduate Record Examination, or GRE, serves as a comprehensive assessment that can help you stand out from other graduate school applicants. Administered in over 160 countries, this exam is accepted by most universities and colleges. Your score can give schools an idea of your readiness for the advanced programs offered by graduate-level institutions. Whether you aren't sure where to begin or you're halfway through your test review, you can still benefit from an online class led by an expert instructor.
The GRE is a three-section exam that can take up to three hours and 45 minutes to complete. The test strives to assess a variety of foundational skills that are invaluable to your ability to succeed in graduate-level classes. You'll need solid time management, communication, reading comprehension, problem-solving, and other skills to go after your test score goals. A Houston GRE course can give you the opportunity to expand on your knowledge and abilities in an interactive and collaborative environment.
What can a Houston GRE course help me review?
The GRE consists of an Analytical Writing section, a Quantitative Reasoning, and a Verbal Reasoning section. The first section you will tackle on the exam is the Analytical Writing, though the remaining two may come in any order. Each section assesses a variety of different skills, so it is important to be prepared for the content of the test.
The Analytical Writing section aims to measure your ability to think critically while communicating your thoughts and ideas. To accomplish this, you will be presented with two, 30-minute tasks: "analyze an argument" and "analyze an issue." Though you don't need any specific knowledge to complete these tasks, you will need to be prepared to evaluate, assess, and respond to each. The issue assignment presents an opinion of an issue that you will need to be able to support an argument against, while the other one asks you to consider the logic of an argument and evaluate its claims.
You will have an hour and 10 minutes to tackle the Quantitative Reasoning section. Split into two 20-question subsections, you can score between 130 and 170 on this portion. Half of the Quantitative Reasoning section allows you to use a calculator, which you are given during the exam. There are four main content areas that are focused on arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. The exam assesses your abilities in these areas through four types of questions: numeric entry, multiple-choice with one answer, multiple-choice with one or more answers, and quantitative comparisons.
The Verbal Reasoning section of the GRE is also split into two 20-question sections. You can achieve 130-170 points on this section. You will have one hour to demonstrate your ability to understand information that is presented in written English. This section measures your ability to analyze, evaluate, and interpret information presented as a whole or in part. Half this section focuses on passage-related questions while the remaining task you with completing the passages or sentences. Questions are split into reading comprehension, sentence equivalence, and text completion types.

I hold an MA in history from the University of Houston and graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University. Let me help you ace the verbal section of your standardized test. Critical reading sections can be tough if you aren't prepared for them! I scored in the top 98% on the verbal section of the GRE, and want to share my expertise with you. Don't be intimidated by the vocab...... The primary goal of teaching is to inspire confidence in the student and to equip them with the necessary skills to achieve their desired goals. I believe in assessing a student’s proficiency in the subject at hand and designing a learning curriculum to match their individual needs. I find that students have different learning styles and aptitudes: some require step-by-step instruction, while others prefer to try and solve a problem on their own. Regardless of what the student prefers, I am ready to provide that for them. In addition, I believe that familiarity with the subject and nature of the test inspires confidence and decreases anxiety. Therefore, I believe in recreating the testing environment at home so that the student will be comfortable when it comes to test day. Finally, I believe in displaying enthusiasm for the subject so that the student sees that learning is something to get excited about, and can be a rewarding experience in its own right.
