I am absolutely available to tutor new students! I just love tutoring! Although I have experience with both children and adults, elementary education is where I shine. I love being silly and creating games for the kids to play to practice certain skills and to reinforce the concepts I'm teaching. Kids love playing games! I bring my personality and try to keep the fun in education. Creative educational projects are also so really, really fun! I have found that kids really respond and stay engaged in the lesson and activities the entire session when they are having fun.
I majored in Psychology and English at Blinn College. I received a B.A. from Texas A&M University, where I majored in Psychology with a double minor in Sociology and English. I completed an M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Purdue University. In the Fall, I will begin work on a second M.S. from Purdue University in Curriculum Design and Instruction.
EXPERIENCE & SUBJECT AREAS
At Blinn College, I began working in the English Writing Lab my freshman year and tutored college students in English, essay writing, and Microsoft Office. I tutored at the Lab for two years. Since then, I have privately tutored high school and college students free of charge. I like helping others succeed, and especially enjoy English, psychology, essay writing, and research.
Last year, I took a job with Club Z as a tutor for students ages 11-17 in the areas of reading, writing, language arts, study skills, and test preparation. I have been tutoring mostly elementary education (all subject areas and multiple grade levels) in the past with Above Grade Level, Wyzant, and Tutor Doctor. At Varsity Tutors, I have tutored adults in test prep, such as EPPP, SAT, ISEE, and CNA Certification. I have also tutored for Varsity in the areas of elementary education, Psychology, research, and study skills.
Over the summer, I hosted live educational webinars and classes for Varsity Tutors in elementary reading, elementary math, and other creative educational topics in their summer camp programs.
LEARNING DISABILITIES AND OTHER CHALLENGES.
I also have experience working with children and adults with different types of learning challenges. Some examples of challenges include learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, as well as other issues that can impact educational performance, such as Dysgraphia, ADD/ADHD, or trouble with study skills, motivation, organization, or project planning. These students receive specialized assistance to overcome their educational challenges using techniques that are research based or personally recommended by others who used the strategy and achieved success. I work with the client to find something that works for them. My goal is to minimize the effect of the student's specific challenges by teaching the student how to cope with and compensate for his disability and/or targeting and minimizing any areas of weakness to achieve success.
The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Discover the possibilities.
