What can a Memphis GRE prep course help me review?
The GRE is a comprehensive exam accepted by thousands of colleges and universities throughout the country. It is composed of three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytic Writing. You may also encounter one of two unscored sections, Experimental or Research. The Experimental section, if present, will be embedded in either the Verbal or Quantitative reasoning sections. The optional Research section will appear at the end of the exam. On average, the GRE takes about 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete, meaning that approaching the test with a detailed plan can help you stay focused throughout the duration of the exam. Utilizing Memphis GRE prep is a great way to learn the ins and outs of the core sections, helping to eliminate encountering the unknown come test day. Here we will break down the three different sections of the exam to give you a better idea of what topics and questions to expect.
The Analytical Writing section will ask you to analyze an issue and to analyze an argument. You will have 30 minutes to complete each task. To sufficiently address each task, you will need to plan a detailed response in which you analyze evidence and supporting claims made in a provided passage, support your ideas with examples and detailed reasons, formulate a focused and coherent discussion, and write clearly and concisely.
The Verbal Reasoning section assesses your ability to understand the meaning of individual words and sentences, summarize a scholarly passage, analyze a text and reach conclusions about it, and identify strengths and weaknesses of a position. This section consists of three different question types: reading comprehension, test completion, and sentence equivalence. The ability to understand and utilize context will help you answer questions that task you with using partial information in a single sentence to choose the best answer for how it should be completed.
The Quantitative Reasoning section will test your ability to reason mathematically and solve basic formulas. You will encounter three question types, including quantitative comparison, multiple-choice, and numeric entry. These questions will test your skills in algebra, arithmetic, geometry, and data analysis. Utilizing GRE prep is a good way to refresh your knowledge of mathematical concepts and terms you may have forgotten over the years, like functions, linear equations, box plots, and geometric formulas.
How can a Memphis GRE class help me prepare for the exam?
Enrolling in a Memphis GRE prep class places you in a virtual classroom led by an expert instructor and filled with motivated students. You will attend live sessions where you can ask questions, troubleshoot, and interact with your peers. This option also affords you the luxury of scheduling one-on-one time with your instructor to work on elements of the exam that may be giving you pause. If you are confident in your verbal and quantitative reasoning skills, your instructor can cater your one-on-one time around the Analytical Writing section. Your instructor might provide you with essay prompts to exercise your writing skills or sample texts to improve your critical analysis skills.
Studying with other students means that you will have the ability to share ideas, test-taking strategies, and receive and offer support. If you are struggling to remember mathematical concepts that you haven't studied since high school, you and your classmates can work together to review the nuances of algebra and geometry. Scheduling can be difficult for anyone, but not having a commute makes this test preparation even more accessible. New classes start weekly and can be taken in two- or four-week increments.

...sessions as a conversation and a collaboration between myself and my students. As a longtime editor, I've become adept at identifying recurring issues in someone's writing and learned to be able to talk to someone about how to rewrite or revamp something instead of telling them what to change. When it comes to other subjects that aren't writing, my approach is focused more on getting the student to develop strategies to learn, process, and remember...

...write that perfect essay, or get those top scores. I believe all students are capable of understanding and progression, and that frequently the issue is not with the learner themselves, but the approach to learning. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to read my statement and letting me share a little about myself and my approach to learning. Don't hesitate to contact me at any time if you have any questions!... My teaching philosophy is "educational empathy." I get it! Not understanding something can be incredibly frustrating.
