History Tutoring review by Donna in Zion, IL
The student's teacher has assigned supplemental reading packets on US-Mexican relations in terms of US Manifest Destiny. There were seven lessons in the packet, he completed 4 of them in our session. He applied the note-taking strategies he has been using to "mark the text" - this generally means underlining key and appropriate ideas/terms/people but also included some places where writing brief notes, drawing arrows to connect ideas, or putting (parentheses) around ideas-within-ideas were necessary. He knows the educational lingo - "annotate" - but didn't really understand it or know how to apply it. He marked each lesson a chunk at a time when I reviewed it. I offered comments of praise and construction. He was able to answer the review questions easily by referring to his marks.
