My goal is to not just increase the grade in a subject, but increase knowledge ,understanding, and even interest in the subject. Too often students are being lost to boring lectures they are unable to relate to, it is my goal to find these students and bring back passion and interest to school. I plan to get my masters in both education and classics, and hope to help create a better education system that will work for all students.

I graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Government and from Fordham University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. I have ten years of experience as a volunteer and private tutor to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. I am from Milwaukee, WI, and moved out to Phoenix 9 years ago.I really love helping people, which is what led me to pursue social work. I enjoy tutoring because it gives me the chance to spend quality time with a person, learning his or her learning style, so that I can adapt my teaching style to best help the individual. I have always really enjoyed and excelled at math, but find that I can tutor a broad range of subjects, from English to history to accounting. For the past year I have been a volunteer tutor at Sumner Library in Minneapolis where I help students with English, Math, and subjects in the humanities and social sciences. In the past I was the leader of an ESL reading circle through the Open Door Learning Center. I was also a private tutor for two elementary aged girls, one of whom was visually impaired and needed my assistance with learning Braille. My future goals are to pursue graduate studies related to literacy and education in the hopes of one day becoming a professor of English Literature. But there I rediscovered a love of math and science which has led me to pursue Physics. I am a hard science geek who loves to read, and I want to help students learn to love all subjects and succeed at them too.

I obtained my BA in History from the Honors College at the University at Buffalo and a Masters Degree in Education from D'Youville College. I am finishing my certification in E-Learning from George Mason University. I have nearly a decade of experience tutoring students with seven years of full-time teaching experience at all ranges of skill, need and interest. I tutor all levels of history, political science and economics and have taught such courses at all levels. I have a particular interest in tutoring economics but welcome all students in my areas of tutoring.My tutoring style is learner-centered and rooted in forming good working relationships with the student. I am currently an adjunct professor, teaching law-related courses and political theory at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In the past, I have worked at a K-12 learning center, assisting students at all grade levels in both math and reading. Additionally, I have served as a one-on-one tutor to select students who solicited my help in drafting their college essays, or to just improve the quality of their high school, middle school, or elementary school writing capacities. Finally, I was a volunteer ESL teacher for six years, teaching grammar and conversation.As a tutor, I do not feel complete until I am confident that my student fully understands the concepts at issue. I take very seriously the responsibility that it is my job to convey the material (obviously with students investing effort), and I try to break everything down as simply as possible.
