My area of expertise is in undergraduate-level remedial chemistry, as well as General Chemistry I & II, and Organic Chemistry I & II. Throughout my career, I have focused on teaching undergraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds, encompassing diverse ages, life experiences, and socioeconomic circumstances. I hold two master's degrees, one in Chemistry and the other in Education, with specializations in STEM and Special Education. My undergraduate degree is in Chemistry. Currently, I serve as a faculty member at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. I have been teaching at the undergraduate level since 2001, with experience that includes both professional academic appointments and private instruction. During a six-year period when I was a stay-at-home mother, I continued to tutor students on a part-time basis. During this time, I worked privately with high school students diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, and other learning differences, as well as with gifted students, in subjects including chemistry, other sciences, and mathematics. Now that my husband has retired from the Marine Corps, he and I enjoy the time we have visiting our children and grandchildren, traveling and taking in ant new sites we can.

I have a curious heart and a passion for learning. I enjoy language, grammar and etymology, exploring the world, history and consciousness, and reading adventures, biographies and poetry. Harry Potter is my favorite, especially Prisoner of Azkaban and Half Blood Prince. I went to EE Waddell HS in Charlotte, NC, where I took 5 AP courses and 4 courses at the local community college. I participated in just about every extra curricular available, including National Honor Society (President), yearbook, volleyball, and I held down a part time job at a coffee shop. I graduated with a 4.25 GPA and went on to obtain my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and French after four years at UNC-Wilmington. I had the pleasure of spending one spring semester in Paris with ma mre d'accueil, Catherine and left dreaming of French phrases and traveling the world. I was also involved in Pi Delta Phi (French Honor Society) and UNCW's Yoga Club (VP); I loved being busy and organized through all my adventures. I also teach yoga and pranayama, or breath awareness, which is always helpful during test time!

I am an educator with 10 years experience and I hold a Master's Degree. I taught general education for 7 years (2nd-5th grade). I then served as a Math Intervention Specialist (K-5) and Gifted Education Specialist (K-6) for 2 years. I currently serve as a district level Coach, helping new teachers be successful in their classrooms. I have a M.Ed. in Language and Literacy education, BA in Elementary Education and Psychology, and two post graduate certifications in Gifted Education, and Coaching/Mentoring. I am an alumna of The University of North Carolina-Wilmington and I have a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology. I am currently working towards my Masters in Elementary Education. I tutor elementary subjects and middle grades math, writing and science. I have worked with students as a teacher assistant in an elementary school and I was a reading tutor in college.I love to teach and watch students accomplish their goals. The look of 'victory' on a student's face, after solving a difficult problem, is what I look forward to as a tutor. My teaching philosophy is "learn a ton, while having fun". Learning should never be boring so I do my best to make it exciting. My favorite subject to tutor is math because there are multiple ways to do one problem. My most recent and most rewarding experiences were while living abroad in South Africa in 2013. While there, I volunteered as a lab assistant, travelled quite a bit, and I attended university courses, one of which allowed my to tutor underprivileged youths in the Port Elizabeth metro area. The organization, known as Sinethemba, offered a place of refuge and focus for these kids who would otherwise have none. A few other university students (ages 5-18) and myself tutored these students in every subject from math and geography, to English as a second language.

Currently, I teach math full-time for the Denver Public School system. Prior to moving to Denver I acquired several years of experience as a mentor, substitute teacher, teaching assistant and researcher at the collegiate level. While in North Carolina I attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I conducted my quantitative thesis research at UNCW--which focuses on how educational inequalities perpetuate variations in the ways that individual’s access, use and benefit from Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) & the Internet. Moreover, I completed my undergraduate studies at Binghamton University and, next fall, I plan on beginning a Doctoral program for Information Communication Studies or Sociology.For fun, I have many hobbies--most of which involve being active outdoors and spending time with my friends and family. This past summer I spent a lot of time paddle-boarding at Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina—until I moved to Colorado. In August, I finished my move to Colorado and I have spent most of my leisure-time enjoying the outdoors: golfing, running and hiking.
