Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During today's session, the student and I reviewed Sections 6.1-6.4 in preparation for his upcoming assessment. The topics covered included using the graphing calculator to find regression models, finding zeros and multiplicities for various degree functions, writing equations based on given zeros, dividing polynomials using long division and synthetic division, solving various degree equations by graphing with the calculator, solving various degree functions by graphing, and solving 2nd degree polynomials using the quadratic formula. There were several concepts and processes that the student was no longer as sharp with, but he was able to catch up rather quickly. I am encouraging more independent practice between sessions with previously covered topics."
"During today's session, the student reviewed math with integers. A cumulative review of Chapter 5 from his textbook provided the exercises used for independent practice. The student displayed a positive attitude about reviewing today's concepts."
"For this session, I wanted the student to prepare for her test tomorrow, so I her Nina do a lot of practice from her book. She had already done the practice test and chapter review from her book, so I just went through and checked that her answers were correct. Then, I had her review some more word problems just to make sure that she could solve them on her test for tomorrow. I used some of the word problems found in her book and also some that I found online. She did very well on these problems, and she seems very confident about writing, solving, and graphing for inequalities. I hope she does a great job tomorrow."
"For this session, I worked with the first student on a review of writing linear equations in different forms, including slope intercept, standard, and point slope form, from given information. I then worked with the second student on algebra 2, focusing on quadratic equations. I showed her a way to factor quadratic equations when the leading coefficient is not equal to 1, and we also worked on word problems with quadratics."
"For this session, the first student worked on finding volumes of 3D shapes such as rectangular solids, cylinders, and cones. The second student completed worksheets on setting up proportions, cross multiplying, solving equations, and proportions word problems. We also began reviewing for his midterm, and we worked on adding and subtracting rational numbers, multiplying and dividing fractions, and mixed numbers."
"For this session, the student and I discussed place-values in multi-digit numbers, and how understanding place is key to knowing how to add, subtract, and round numbers. We also reviewed how to model numbers using expanded form and base-ten blocks. Finally, we looked at math problems involving money."
